About
Martha is Forest and Environmental Policy Counsel for the Washington Forest Protection Association, a trade association representing private forest landowners in Washington State. Its members include large and small companies, individuals and families who grow, harvest and re-grow trees sustainably on about 4 million acres. She previously represented the Washington Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Parks on habitat, endangered species, real estate, enforcement, SEPA, and public works matters, as well as advised clients on local land use issues, contracts, conservation opportunities, compliance with forest practices rules, public process, and issues arising under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), the federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and state and federal laws related to threatened, sensitive, and endangered species.Martha has presented at Public Interest Environmental Law Conferences, CLEs for The Seminar Group and Law Seminars International, local chapters of WFFA, and environmental law classes at Seattle University. Martha was previously an Assistant Attorney General representing the Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for almost 10 years, including as lead counsel for the Forest Resources and Conservation Division. Before becoming an attorney, Martha was an extern at the Environmental Protection Agency, a teaching assistant at the University of Washington’s Department of Zoology, and a field technician for northern spotted owl, cabbage white butterfly, and Bell’s vireo studies.
