About

TALK TO A WOMAN WITH 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. EDUCATION: I am from the Upper Cumberland Area and went to Law School in Nashville.  I worked my way through college at Tennessee Tech, and then through Law School at the Nashville School of Law, graduating in 1983.  OFFICES:  I first opened my office in Monterey in August 1984 until July 1988, when I moved to Cookeville.  My office was on the square for many years, but I purchased my own building in August 2011, located at 101 S. Jefferson Ave, Cookeville, Tennessee.   I share office space with three other very good lawyers, and can refer you in-house, if necessary.  I have two paralegals with many years of experience who work for me. I handle cases in Putnam mainly, but also go to White, Overton, and Jackson counties, but the other attorneys in the office go to several other counties.FAMILY AND DOMESTIC RELATIONS CASES: I have a number domestic relations cases, including but not limited to divorces, with and without children, divorce with large amounts of property and others where the parties were married for a long time and the court awarded alimony.  I have had to appeal some cases along the way.  I tried one relocation case, and the court denied the relocation, but on appeal the trial court was reversed.   I, after winning a relocation case allowing my client to move with her child to Italy, defended an appeal  of that case and the appellate court upheld the trial court.  I have tried a number of termination cases, several have been appealed. I have worked on child support, child custody, paternity, parentage, divorces with or without children, terminations of parental rights, adoptions, relocations case and more.CRIMINAL PRACTICE: I practiced more criminal law when I first started practicing law.  I have handled more than five first degree murder cases, and several death penalties.  I tried one death penalty case, and appealed it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. I had one murder case dismissed on motion. and not appealed by the State.  I had one first degree murder reduced to reckless homicide, after hearing a motion regarding his confession.  My most recent murder case was in 2012, my client was convicted of manslaughter. I have appealed a number of criminal cases, some regarding search and seizure, confessions and sentencing.MEDIATION: I am a Rule 31 mediator, with domestic violence certification.  I don't handle as many mediation as I would like, but enjoy that part of my practice, as well.  I think you will find me hard working and ready to handle your case.   Marti Crawford

I hired Ms. Crawford to handle my child custody case, and I genuinely couldn't have asked for better representation. She was attentive, informative, and incredibly honest (hard traits to come by these days). She explained to me my legal rights, told me when I was being unrealistic about certain things, and emotionally prepared me for what I was diving into. It was such a relief having a lawyer that would fight for my child and I. Her office and staff is incredibly organized and on top of things, they were constantly in contact and keeping me up to date. Should I ever have to acquire representation again, I will never use anyone besides Ms. Crawford.

Marti has been very helpful. She is prompt and through. She definitely takes care of her clients. I could not have chosen a better attorney to represent me.

Ms. Crawford handled a Family case for us. We were seeking temporary legal custody.5.0 starsPosted by Robert September 10, 2016We first met with Ms. Crawford in 2014 to ask what we needed to do to get custody of our granddaughter. Ms. Crawford was honest and informative and told us the steps we would need to take in order to prove that our granddaughter needed to be placed in our custody, and to continue to take care of her as much as possible until we were ready to prove our situation in court. We went through the exact steps that Ms. Crawford recommended. In 2015 when a series of events happened, the time was urgent for us to go to court. We were granted temporary legal custody of our granddaughter. Our situation for the past three years has been very stressful. When we needed legal help, Ms. Crawford was readily available to guide us through the correct processes. She recommended someone for our daughter to seek a divorce and guided us to another attorney for our daughter's disability claim. She genuinely had our daughter's and our granddaughter's best interest at heart. In all our appointments and correspondence with Ms. Crawford, she has been professional, courteous, and knowledgeable of the laws regarding our case. We want Ms. Crawford to continue to guide and represent us.

I hired this attorney to represent me in divorce . Paid $3000 for that i got one motion and mediation. She never met with me or reviewed my exs financials . Cost me 10s of thousands of dollars i cant even get the itemized bill from her that is in our contract. I could have saved money just by giving my ex what she wanted

Ms. Crawford was my attorney in a divorce case. She belittled me any time I had questions. I should have stopped right there, but had spent so much money, I felt that I couldn't afford to. When all was said and done, she did a much better job for my ex-husband than his attorney did. I hope this review helps someone avoid the horrible representation that I received.
