Mark A. Mason's personal biography is one of a man on mission to win lawsuits for his clients. In 1982, Mark graduated from Guilford College, where he played on the varsity lacrosse team as a defenseman for the “Fighting Quakers” and clerked for the investigative division of the Guilford County, North Carolina, District Attorney’s office. In 1985, Mark graduated magna cum laude, first in his class, from Campbell University School of Law. He excelled in torts, personal injury law, contracts, property law, administrative law, estates and agency. For his scholarship in these fields of law he was honored by The Lawyers Co-operative Publishing Company as the recipient of numerous American Jurisprudence Law Book Awards. Mark was also honored for his preeminent academic achievement by West Publishing Company as the recipient of the West Hornbook Award for attaining the highest grade point average in his class every year. Omicron Delta Kappa named Mark “Law Student of the Year.” Mark was a member of the Campbell Law Review and the moot court team. During law school, Mark clerked for Peter J. Messitte, now a senior United States District Court Judge in Greenbelt, Maryland. Judge Messitte greatly influenced Mark’s driven and determined approach to the practice of law.In 1987, with a small loan from his grandmother, Mark established his law firm in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where he has practiced law for more than 30 years. In the early years, as part of his general trial practice, Mark represented the Town of Mount Pleasant, Town of Sullivan’s Island, City of Isle of Palms, City of Charleston and the City of Goose Creek, as special legal counsel acting as a prosecuting attorney. In 1989, Mark was retained to represent the family of a victim killed in the crash of United Airlines Flight 232 in Sioux City, Iowa, a crash caused by a catastrophic failure of its tail-mounted engine, which led to the loss of all flight controls. From this point forward Mark’s legal career has focused on serious personal injury and wrongful death cases and complex litigation of all types. In 1994, Mark established a satellite office on Edisto Island, South Carolina which the firm uses to serve its diverse clientele and which acts as a trial preparation facility. In 2004, Mark located the firm’s primary office in the waterfront office building he constructed on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. This office was designed and built to serve as the ultimate location to practice law.In 2006, Mark acquired the docks on Shem Creek and the former OK Tire Store location adjacent to his office building. He designed and permitted the old shrimping docks on Shem Creek. Mark later sold this project to the Town of Mount Pleasant. This lead to the preservation of the shrimp boat fleet and created an amazing public amenity in the Town's historic Old Village district. This property is now the site of the Shem Creek Park - Mount Pleasant’s crown jewel.Notably, Mark has achieved excellent results in many serious personal injury and wrongful death cases, real estate litigation, eminent domain cases, business disputes, insurance litigation, estate matters, fraud cases, construction litigation, family law cases, criminal law and many other types of legal matters. He has represented thousands of clients. Mark handles cases locally, nationally and internationally.Mark is relentless in pursuit of his mission to devise the best legal strategy for handling any case.
