Maria Justus joined the practice as a legal intern in 2017 and came on as an Associate attorney after being sworn into the Georgia Bar in 2019. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida and her Juris Doctor from Savannah Law School.While at Savannah Law School Ms. Justus was a member of the Trial Advocacy Team where she competed in national Mock Trial competitions. She was also a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, the Street Law community program where she spoke at local high schools about the law and its effect on teens, and participated in the Tiny House Project to house local veterans through the Veterans Law Society.Prior to working with Mr. Dixon, Ms. Justus clerked for the Honorable Penny Haas Freesemann of the Chatham County Superior Court. She worked on a caseload consisting of various divisions including Major Crimes, Mental Health, and Veterans Court. She continued to intern in private criminal practice where she assisted in felony appellate brief writing for submission to the Supreme Court of Georgia.Ms. Justus is admitted to practice before Georgia Superior Courts, including all lower courts, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. She is a member of the Georgia Bar Association, the Savannah Bar Association, the Savannah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

I was assigned Attorney Justus after being criminally charged in Chatham County, Georgia. Although assigned by the state, I would never know I wasn’t paying her top dollar for her services. Maria has a compassion for her clients as well as unmatched passion for her job. She worked endlessly and answered tons of texts and questions and never once made me feel like I was bothering her. I had attorneys tell me straight out that “Im not a paid attorney” but Maria presented herself like she was and never once made me or my family fell less than.
