Makenzie graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Public Health with a concentration in pre-medical science. After undergrad, she attended Florida Coastal School of Law and graduated as a Dean's Scholar. Committed to helping people, Makenzie completed over 400 hours of pro bono service in addition to course credit as a Certified Legal Intern with the 4th Judicial Circuit Public Defender and the Office of the Federal Defender for the Middle District of Florida. During law school, she served as Secretary of the Military Law Society and was a member of multiple student organizations, including the Women's Law Society and Volunteer Immigration Student Alliance. Before law school, she volunteered with the Shriner's Hospitals for Children and worked as an intern at an immigration law firm in Tampa.
