About
I am specially trained in elder law and particularly welcome clients who need help addressing the challenges of aging and disabilities. I keep informed about changes in public benefit programs nationally and in Oregon. I can help you understand the complex Medicaid program, and create a plan for future Medicaid eligibility that best protects assets for the "community spouse" and other dependent family members. I can help you set up trusts to protect beneficiaries with special needs and with special problems. If you drafted your will when your children were young, I can help you update your estate plan to reflect changes in family dynamics, and to deal sensitively with tricky family issues. If you're worried about a family member showing signs of cognitive decline (memory loss, etc.), I can help you analyze and implement options for their protection, including guardianships and conservatorships. I am also experienced in the administration of trusts and the probate of wills. And, by the way, I am the author of the book Fishing in Oregon, a founding member of the Scappoose Bay Watershed Council, and counsel for the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association.

Madelyn was first introduced to me by my brother as his legal representative. She was kind and handled all levels of detail well. When my brother died she helped me with the estate. Madelyn was prompt, never had to be asked twice for info, and fielded all the curveballs of his estate.
Maddy went with me to DHS to help me get spousal benefits when my husband was ill. She did all the talking for me and made sure that all forms and data was given. She offered support and excellent advice.
I hired Maddy to help with the formation of a Special Needs Trust. She made sure that the trust was thoroughly reviewed by Social Security, state agencies and the court so nothing was overlooked. She wanted to be sure that other benefits received by the recipient of the Trust would not be compromised or jeopardized. We also worked within a limited time frame and she got the job done on time. It was easy to communicate with Maddy by phone and email. Her fee was very reasonable for all the time and concern she put into the project.
