About
Mac Downs is a graduate of the Cumberland School of Law, and has been a member of the Alabama State Bar Association since 1974. He is a former Municipal Court Judge, and former President of the Etowah County Bar Association.Mac worked in the Alabama Attorney General’s office in Montgomery, AL, for 2 years, following his graduation from law school. As an Assistant Attorney General, he did appellate work, including oral arguments before the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.Mr. Downs later moved back to his hometown of Gadsden and became a Deputy District Attorney for Etowah County. In that position, he prosecuted criminal cases in the Etowah County court system in both Judge and Jury trials.Later, Mr. Downs started his own law practice, handling both personal injury and criminal matters. Mac has tried jury cases involving car wrecks, slip and falls, and employment matters. He has also tried criminal cases including capital (death penalty) cases..When Mac started handling Social Security Disability cases he attended his first seminar on Social Security Disability cases in Birmingham (Mountain Brook), Alabama, in 1994. Since that time, he has tried more than 1,000 Social Security Disability cases. Mac has been a sustaining member of NOSSCR (National Organization of Social Security Claimant's Representatives) since 2007. Mac has attended NOSSCR seminars on Social Security Disability in San Francisco, California, Washington, DC, and Seattle, Washington. Mac attended the NOSSCR seminar on Social Security Disability in Phoenix (Scottsdale) Arizona in September 2017.Mac has also attended 15 Social Security Disability seminars that were put on by either ABICLE (Alabama Bar Instutute for CLE), or CLE Alabama or Cumberland School of Law (CICLE). (1994,1995,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2007,2008,2009,2010,2011,2012,2013,2014)He has tried Disability cases in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
