About
Lou Ciavarra is the immediate past Managing Partner of the Firm and now the Leader of the Litigation Practice Area. For almost 30 years he has advised businesses on avoiding and, when necessary, litigating business disputes. Lou has tried and won numerous jury and bench trials in federal and state courts on matters involving complex business disputes, intellectual property disputes, construction disputes and securities fraud. He has also represented professionals and firms in the securities industry before FINRA and state regulatory authorities. Lou’s practice often involves counseling business clients on employment matters, protection of intellectual property, contract negotiations and "bet the company" litigation. Lou has the highest Martindale & Hubbell Peer Review ranking of AV Preeminent, 5.0, and has been selected for inclusion in Massachusetts Super Lawyers each year since its inception in 2004. Only five percent of the lawyers in a state are so selected each year. He has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© in the fields of Commercial Litigation and Litigation - Intellectual Property. Active in federal court practice, he is a former President of the Federal Bar Association - Massachusetts. When Lou was Managing Partner of the Firm, the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus named him a “Good Guys” honoree for his ongoing commitment and partnership in achieving equality for women. He is also a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA), an invitation-only honorary society that includes less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. Representative cases that Lou has handled include a copyright infringement trial on behalf of a software client; an action to enjoin unlawful competition and protection of trade secrets; defense in a suit by the acquirer of a subsidiary of our client alleging breach of contract and a claim of securities fraud against our client.

I am a past client of Louis Ciavarra. He was supposed to represent 3 plaintiffs and myself, a defendant in counterclaim, in a civil matter. The entire claim against me was for under $2,000.00. The entire suit was for under 65k. Mr. Ciavarra in 3 months charged over 228,000.00 and is trying to get it from me personally. There is no agreement from me to be responsible for the fees, nor did he do a conflict assessment and waiver as required under the rules. Currently, there is pending a BBO complaint against him and his firm for his conduct in this case.
