About
Lisa J. Gill is licensed in Mississippi and Tennessee, active in both states, and has successfully represented clients in both states at the trial and appellate levels. She has represented clients in alternative dispute resolution options outside of court including both mediation and arbitration. Prior to becoming licensed as an attorney, she worked as a paralegal providing trial and litigation assistance and assisted in numerous bench and jury trials, both at the state and federal level. She has prior experience in the areas of construction, real estate, business law, and employment law.Her Father was a local electrical estimator and subcontractor. She spent many Saturdays in her youth doing homework in job site trailers and at the local Memphis Builders Exchange (before the days of AutoCAD). Her Father taught her that the difference between good and great is “all in the details.” He could recite entire sections of the NEC from memory and still explain in layman’s terms what it meant without ever once making someone feel less than. She watched him study with many apprentices to help them obtain their master electrician’s license. He acknowledged that getting the details right was powerful and important because it could mean the difference between a safe or unsafe job site or finished job. He defined “servant leader” with his actions. She applies that same passionate dedication and principle to her legal practice. Electricity, like legal issues, are not to be taken lightly. She also inherited her father’s poor taste in puns.Lisa concentrates her practice in all areas of family law, including divorce, child custody/parental issues, child support, termination of parental rights, adoption, paternity and juvenile court matters. Lisa also handles pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements and LGBTQ+ family law. Lisa Gill has a passion for complex case matters, including working with families that have mental health and/or addiction issues, asset protection, business valuation, buy-sell agreements, and complex business entity restructuring and/or addressing “workout” issues. Lisa is a small business owner and was one prior to becoming a lawyer.Lisa’s first priority is to take complex matters and get right to the heart of it early to develop a strategy for a client’s global resolution. Her second priority is to provide strategic counsel with as much discretion as can be afforded to each client’s unique situation. She has personally experienced divorce. She knows that clients want an attorney that aggressively works to reach resolution while offering counsel in a way that allows clients to maintain their dignity. As a friend’s father once told her, “you must offer the olive branch but, ready the sword.” She takes that advice to heart. She is results-oriented and efficient. She works to resolve matters through negotiation or mediation when possible while also keeping the case poised for trial if negotiations are unfruitful. That is why she gathers necessary information from her clients from the very outset of the representation. She and her team work to ensure that their clients do not have the added anxiety of preparing at the very last minute or being unprepared should their case proceed to trial. Her very first mentor taught her 20 years ago that “unfortunately, nothing settles a case quite like a trial date.” Personally, she believes that Sun Tzu said it best when he offered “The greatest victory is that which requires no battle.” Stil, she has come to accept that she cannot control whether or not the other party acknowledges the truth of that principle. That is why she “offers the olive branch but, readies the sword.”EducationTHE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS CECIL C. Divorce is a daunting experience. I didn't know just how daunting until I was faced with my own. Lisa put me at ease immediately when I met her that all was going to be well and that she would be there to walk me thru any potential hurdles. In the early days of the divorce proceedings I was in contact with Lisa several times a week and she was almost always immediately available to answer any questions or concerns. The scary times became a bit less scary because I had someone to explain the process to me in layman's terms that I had no problems understanding. My divorce is complete now and Lisa has started her own firm. I have no doubts that it will thrive because Lisa takes care of her clients. I highly advise anyone facing divorce or family issues to give her an opportunity.
Lisa Gill is very experienced in child custody cases. She worked extremely hard on my case. She was always available when I needed her. I never felt alone or unprepared in the court room and I was confident that Lisa was looking out for me and the best interest of my child. She is intelligent, compassionate about what she does, has a vast knowledge of family law, and will work hard for you!
I am so grateful to have had Lisa represent me. My case involved an emergency order of protection, enrolling divorce documents (originally filed in another state), a parenting plan modification (including mediation), and contempt filings. My case took about 9 months total, and it was definitely not a straight-forward case. She is exceptionally skilled and strategic at dealing with difficult counterparts (I know, we all think our exes are the worst, but). For example, I hired her in part because of her familiarity and experience dealing with narcisstic personality disorder. Lisa is professional, focused, organized, and has a really good structure set up that includes a team--there was always at least one other attorney who was familiar with my case, which ensured backup help and that everything was completed in a timely manner. The fees are structured for each individual attorney depending (I think?) on their rank within the firm. Not cheap (are any good attorneys, though?), but like I said, worth every penny! I recommend her 100% without any reservations.
We were given a summons to attend court for an emergency hearing with about 25 hours to prepare and no previous notice. Lisa’s devotion was amazing. She and her team work with us over the next 25 hours to prepai for this case. They worked tirelessly the whole time. Even while we were Getting read for court, driving to court and walking in they were updating and revising in preparation. They not only helped us to be ready, they won our requests and got our request accepted. I cannot say thank you enough. The whole team saved the day! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I could not have had a better divorce attorney than Lisa Gill while I was going thru a very tough time. She was very compassionate, understanding, knowledgeable, and fought for everything I wanted. She made sure that I knew every aspect of what could be and what was. She definitely makes you feel that your case is her number one priority and she treats it that way. She was prompt in getting back to me when I had questions and needed immediate answers. She would adjusted her schedule to make sure that she would have time for me and my case. I would definitely recommend Lisa to anyone having to go thru a divorce, especially when a child(ren) are involved.
Our family was in need of Conservatorship over a sibling. Having no experience with a family attorney, my siblings and I were expecting a long and expensive ordeal. Lisa told us that she too had a similar issue in her family. Her compassion was shown in the retainer charged. Family members had to fly into town just one time to sign the appropriate documents. Lisa quickly obtained all the information needed and filed with the Court. Before our hearing, she personally contacted the health and social service professionals assigned to our brother. This alone was instrumental in helping to get the best care possible for him. Lisa did an outstanding job at the hearing and our petition was granted in full. My brother is now at an excellent facility and doing well. Thanks Lisa.
She cares about her clients and will go the extra mile to get results. My divorce was over in 6 months!!
