He waited till the day before trial to started working on defense strageties. During my meeting he confronted me with some accussations the arresting officer made. I was quite taken aback as I expect an attorney I hire to be on my side. I have hearing problems and my lawyer seemed to accusse me of faking them. Mr. Kilpatrick had explained to me that the judge in my case was very intimidating. That is something you don't want to hear from your lawyer. You want your lawyer to be aggressive and fearless in your defense. On the day of the trial, he explained they offered a plea deal. I tried to see the written plea deal but he didn't have one. I found out from my probation officer that the plea deal was substantially different from what he had told me. His response was simply that he wasn't sure of the details but he was certain that I wasn't being treated unfairly. That wasn't the response I was expecting from my advocate. In front of the judge, Mr. Kilpatrick didn't even stand by my side, his client. He stood next to the bench. I had a question for him when the judge was speaking to me, and I tried to get his attention to come over, but he looked straight ahead and wasn't paying attention to his client. In all, I feel that Mr. Kilpatrick didn't provide even a basic defense for his client. I feel that I would have been better off defending myself or paying twice as much for another lawyer.
