While initially sympathetic and businesslike in the matter of estates dealing with one's deceased loved one, Kalfayan quickly dissolved into a non-responsive, seemingly inept attorney whose overall manner leaves you with an impression of a petty and greedy individual. This comment is limited by the lack of interaction (e.g. returned calls, written correspondence, timely submission of forms, etc.) while still in possession of the client's money. However, he will send a monthly statement of how much is in your account that he has no intention of returning to you even after your business with him has ended.

Three years, AND THE ESTATE IS STILL NOT CLOSED. Three months and three requests to get one death cert. Another attorney hired to do a court petition to force him into court to give summery of assets. Did and does not respond back on emails or voice mails or to other attorney. No specific accounting for his work just takes large lump sums from cash of estate. Told to close estate a year ago and payout balance of cash. His response was most big assets were distributed. Think he is just keeping open to take the rest of the cash himself. We were never told of assets, life ins and stock, because he said had a beneficiary and was not going through probate. We found these after he was forced into court with the summery of assets. This was about two years after the estate was open. I think he drags his feet and logs all the calls, emails etc as billable time and since he does not respond back for quite sometime he will make more on the multiple requests from clients. Also if he waits and you have to force him into court he can bill you for all the hassle he is putting you through. I don't care what he quotes you as a cost I would run from this lawyer. You think the death of a family member is going to be tough on you wait till he gets ahold of you and the estate!
