Lawrence’s twenty year career within the field of trusts and estates runs the gamut of serving individual and institutional clients with personal estate planning, wealth preservation, estate and tax issues, Surrogate’s Court proceedings, contested proceedings, charitable giving planning as well as elder law considerations, including guardianship, Medicaid planning and planning for people with disabilities. As appropriate, Lawrence has used his experience to litigation when needed and has negotiated resolution if desirable.Lawrence is admitted to the practice of law in both New York and Florida; he is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, and the United States District Court for both the Eastern and Southern Districts. A graduate of New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business, he received his law degree from the Yeshiva University Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where he served as Managing Editor of the Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Journal. I had the pleasure to have been referred to Laurence Garbuz a few years back, when some very difficult and delicate family questions came up over trust abuse by the trustee, and then over a question of inheritance from another part of the family who had been involved in active abuse from my early childhood, Laurence himself, and the whole staff handled this with the greatest discretion and, above all, sensitivity which required personal wisdom and honesty to a high degree. I would recommend him and the office hands down and heart high, for the human and legal intelligence that clearly is a priori for this person and the legal office there as well.

I hired Lawrence to handle a probate matter in New York. Lawrence was called in to complete the matter after my prior attorney could not complete the assigned tasked. Lawrence is very patient and very through. He went over the entire process with me, explained next steps and guided me and my family throughout. Like many families we do not all get along, Lawrence was able to work the problem and complete the shared goal of completing the probate process. He resolved issues, kept an open line of communication with everyone and worked quickly to the stated goal.
