Laura took $1000 and never even started my case. I repeatedly called and emailed to try and receive a follow up and when she finally answered she was rude and threatened me she would only continue with my case after I handed over more money. She proved to have no compassion or trustworthiness, do NOT hire this attorney.
When I talked with Laura the first time, she said, "oh yeah, I'll fight for you. I'm your girl." I was so relieved because I needed someone to fight for me, to have equal time with my precious little 1 year old twin daughters. After I gave her the retainer, she literally put both hands up to stop me from telling her anything about my situation with my wife. At the visitation hearing, Laura was my worst adversary. She insisted on hand writing the agreement and having me sign it right then and there, even as the magistrate told her repeatedly that only a typed agreement can be accepted. After she talked the magistrate into accepting the hand scribbled agreement, Laura duped me into signing an agreement where she screwed me out of time with my daughters. She's just as narcissistic as my wife.
Laura was my Attorney in my first custody case with my daughter and years later I retained her again to go back for full custody of my daughter. I explained to Laura what I wanted the out come to be for the safety of my daughter and I feel that Laura fought me tooth and nail telling me I would loose custody of my daughter if I pushed too hard against my daughters then biological mother. Laura would respond to e-mails and telephone calls days or weeks later. When I started asking questions in regards to my former case and I was be given answers like "You were too nice, you're a nice guy" and "you didn't ask for that so we did go for that" I started becoming suspicious if Attorney DePledge was just going through the motions with my case. After a year of being in this custody case I reached out to another local attorney to see if what Attorney DePledge was guiding me to do was true. When I was guided by another attorney in the area, he told me everything I was asking for was completely justifiable and that I would not loose custody of my daughter with the concerns I was bringing to the court. I feel that I invested a lot of time and raked up over $10,000 worth of Attorney fees for nothing. Once Attorney DePledge was no longer my Attorney my case was closed in 7 months and my daughters biological mother gave custody up of my daughter and requested for my wife to adopt my daughter. I feel that if you are looking for an attorney who is going to fight for you and/or your child's best interests Attorney DePledge would not be the lawyer to choose.
Atty Depledge stated she would listen to the history of my complicated divorce/custody case. After receiving her retainer she only looked at past court documents; In subsequent consultations with me she disallowed discussion of history/events which my stalker /abusive ex husband who has since my divorce moved on to emotionally(including severe parent alienation), sexually, physically abusing our sons to prepare for my case. She is a decent litigator but could care less about getting to know her clients or standing behind them. Don't expect her to get personally involved/ see your perspective. She had no idea about what would be in the best interest of our children. My ex husband did not follow parenting time schedules, she did not advocate for me/my children, having had 3 weeks to work out a schedule with opposing counsel she went on vacation for two weeks without resolving/replying to opposing counsels for holiday schedule, and charging $800 anyway.( according to my friends on facebook she was quite busy throwing holiday parties) In court she did not protect my rights, she argued somewhat effectively in child support hearing, but did not notify the court of a prior settlement so the court assessed several thousand dollars in arrearages. In the end, if I hired someone to correct this error it would cost me as much as the arrearages. Unless you have a truly black and white case, don't walk, run.
