About
I help future Americans become citizens. I do this through my offices in Idaho and Nevada by helping people navigate the process of obtaining green cards, fiance visas, immigrant visas and waivers so that they can become permanent residents. As an immigration attorney at the Schaefer Law Firm, I help people navigate the immigration process. I am also an adjunct professor at Concordia University School of Law where I teach the immigration law clinic. Through this clinic I am able to provide pro bono legal services to my community. I am a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), a national association of over 11,000 attorneys and law professors who practice and teach immigration law. I have completed intensive consular officer training offered by the Department of State at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia and have provided consular services in Lagos, Nigeria. I have an international background and have lived or worked in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa. Prior to law school I served as a communications officer in the United States Marine Corps and worked in both the private and public sectors. I previously worked as an associate attorney at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in Washington, DC. I am a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. I graduated magna cum laude and was granted Order of the Coif recognition for graduating in the top 10% of my class. During law school I was a member of the American Criminal Law Review and served as the Notes Development Editor.

My husband and I hired Kimberley Schaefer to help us with our I-130 application and our I-601 Waiver for his overstay. Her services were reasonable priced and very professional. We got our I-601 approved in record time and without an RFE when the trend was about 70 % of people were getting RFEs. So our waiver must have been very well presented and through to get through so quickly and without an RFE. She wanted us to do the maximum and not just the minimum so that required extra work collecting documents but in the end it paid off big time! I would highly recommend her to anyone that is going to file an I-601! She knew what to add and what questions to ask and really went above and beyond. The best thing about working with Kimberley was her ability to empathize, she could understand the intense stress and anxiety that we were experiencing.
My family hired Kimberly to represent my mom on a very complex immigration case that had been pending with USCIS for over a decade. She needed a waiver approval to adjust her status and while we had submitted a waiver in the past, it was denied twice with eligibility for appeal. Our decision to hire Kimberly was after having a very poor experience with a previous attorney that had handled my mom's case for almost 10 years. Our experience working with Kimberly exceeded our expectations. Aside from her obvious expertise in Immigration law, her professionalism and most importantly; her interest in my mother's immigration case, she was very responsive to all our emails and phone calls. Additionally any in-person appointments we'd request, they were scheduled directly by her and we were seen within 48 hours which you do not get with other law firms now in days. She charged us a very reasonable fee for her services and while she provided us with a very realistic picture of my mother's case on how complicated it was, she also provided us with so much information on how to fight the case and the different options we had to do so. Unlike other attorneys, she shared a lot of information with my family. After Kimberly submitted the waiver package to USCIS on behalf of my mother, we received an approval notification within 60 days from the submittal date which was the only thing my mom needed to adjust her status in the US. The quality of work we witnessed in the waiver package prepared by Kimberly was exceptional. She made sure the documented evidence was concise to the last detail. She included a lot of researched information she had found and the overall tone of the waiver was strong and clear enough that it was approved by USCIS without hesitations. While we are almost done working with her in my mom's case, we will always refer her to anyone needing an efficient immigration attorney and we will forever be thankful to her services. Had it not been for her, my family would still be experiencing such high levels of stress and turmoil due to my mom's case.
you will speak to in Boise and all of Idaho (and even Nevada!). Kim has worked closely on my immigration case since 2018, and I always proudly announce that she is my attorney. Kim's work is passionate and purposeful; her efforts are relentless and extremely effective. Her knowledge of the current immigration laws is impressive. Not to mention, she has the kindest personality and an adventurous heart, which helped me feel at ease when I had to share all of the traumatic events from the past to help me build my political asylum case. The immigration process isn't necessarily a breeze for many people, including me, and in moments when my anxiety drives me crazy, Kim always has a detailed answer to every single one of my million questions. She is very responsive, and I know she is always there to help because of her commitment to making this world a better place. A couple of years after we submitted all the documents, my case got approved, and my green card application is coming up next. The last time I visited Kim's office, my immigration-related anxiety was completely gone. Kim has proved to be a fantastic immigration attorney over and over, which made me completely stop worrying about my future in this country. I will be forever thankful to Kim Schaefer at Schaefer Law Firm for all the effort she put in to help me live my wonderful life here in the United States.
One of the best services I received. Easy outgoing very informative and gets the job done. Definitely would recommend it to anyone who needs help.
I’m very pleased with Schaefer Law firm. Kim and her team did an outstanding job representing me for my permanent green card application. Before I met Kim, I had interviewed several other immigration lawyers but as soon as I talked to her, I knew I had found the right one. It is difficult to tell a stranger about the abuse you have been victim of, yet Kim calm and quiet demeanor made me feel safe and secure. I trusted her immediately and it was a huge relief for me to know that I could rely 100% on her to work on my side. Kim guided me through the whole process of self petitioning and built a very strong case based on domestic violence. We had a lot of evidence to document the abuse but the way Kim presented the case made all the difference. The USCIS granted me the permanent green card under extreme cruelty. I would recommend Kim for her professional ethic, integrity, professionalism and responsiveness.
I consulted with Kimberly Schaefer a few weeks ago. Not only is she professional and polite, she is also very detailed when she is working for you. She makes sure you fully understand your options verbally and visually. She is one of the most honest attorneys I have met. I have spent over $8,000.00 on immigration attorneys and she is the only one that made sure what my options were and why. It took me a while to find her and a lot of research to know she was trustworthy. It is just that, with me experience with other attorneys it is difficult to really give another attorney an opportunity. With her it was different and she really cares about the people. I recommend to try her first.
My neighbor recommended Ms.Schaefer. Kimberley and Scott were very helpful, friendly and professional. They took their time to answer questions and were very knowledgeable. Thank you for your great help.
I emailed Kimberly Schaefer on a Sunday expecting a reply on Monday or Tuesday. She emailed me back on Sunday night with great information. She has since emailed me twice and we are setting up a Skype consult.
I don't have enough words about her she is very kind very helpful she is not like others lawyer she understand the problem we have she don't want make more stress.
I didn't hire her yet, but I really got benefit from her experience. I am trying to apply for a green card while I am staying in the U.S under J1 visa, and she recommended me to find a job before April, when most of immigration visas are granted.
