Kevin R. Van Duser, a partner since 2005, serves as the chair of the Insurance Coverage Department at the Sugarman Law Firm, where he has handled many coverage disputes involving high risk, high exposure claims on behalf of both insurers and insureds. He also manages the Motions and Appeals Department, and is a member of the firm’s Toxic Tort Department where he defends claims involving exposure to lead-based paint, asbestos products, industrial chemicals, and environmental hazards. As a litigation and trial lawyer, he has significant courtroom experience and has successfully tried cases throughout New York State. His practice has focused on the defense of professional malpractice claims, commercial and contract matters, products liability lawsuits, labor law claims, premises liability actions, and personal injury lawsuits including wrongful death and traumatic brain injury cases. Mr. Van Duser is admitted to practice before all New York State courts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Western Districts of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit. A graduate of Bradley University (B.S. International Business and Finance) and Syracuse University College of Law, he is a member of the Onondaga County and New York State bar associations, the American Association for Justice f/k/a Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York). He has also lectured at New York State Bar Association Continuing Legal Education seminars on the topic of Insurance Coverage. Mr. Van Duser has been recognized by LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell for excellence in both legal ability and ethical standards, and also by the Top 100 Lawyers in America magazine. He has been a recipient of the Syracuse Business Journal's 40 Under Forty Award, awarded annually to a select group of young leaders who have made significant civic and professional contributions to the Syracuse community. From 2006-2011 he was an active member of the Board of Trustees for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Central New York and served on the Board’s Executive Committee and Governance Committee.
