About
Kevin McGee has spent his entire legal career zealously representing the rights of those accused of a crime. There is nothing more stressful and frightening than being charged with a crime. This doesn't just affect the person accused, but families as well. Criminal charges carry significant consequences even beyond the threat of fines or imprisonment. They can affect housing, employment, educational opportunities, reputations, driving privileges, voting privileges, and much more. Kevin was raised to fight for people. His father, Richard McGee, is one of the most respected Criminal Defense Attorneys in Tennessee, and a mentor to many lawyers. Kevin's wife, Sarah, has also devoted her life to fighting for the rights of the accused. Kevin began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender at the Metropolitan Public Defender's Office in Nashville, Tennessee. The reputation of that office is one of the best Public Defender offices in the country. Kevin learned from some of the most experienced trial lawyers in the state. He represented thousands of clients in need of assistance, charged with an assortment of crimes, from misdemeanors to First Degree Murder. After starting a private practice in Nashville, Kevin moved to Knoxville with his wife while she attended law school from 2008 to 2011. In Knoxville, Kevin worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the Knox County Community Law Office, which specializes in client-centered, holistic representation. Kevin worked exclusively in the felony courts of Knox County, handling all sorts of felonies, from thefts to drug offenses to violent crimes. After moving back to his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, Kevin went back to private practice. Kevin has attended numerous trial skills programs, including the Tennessee Criminal Defense College (twice), the National Criminal Defense College, the Tennessee Public Defender's Conference, the National Legal Aid and Defender Association Life in the Balance Death Penalty Training Conference (twice), and countless continuing legal education conferences with the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. Kevin has presented at numerous conferences, including the Tennessee Public Defender's Conference and TACDL conferences in Knoxville and Nashville. Kevin is a regular presenter at the Nashville Roundtable, a TACDL sponsored monthly event that helps train and mentor lawyers in Nashville, and Kevin helped start a monthly TADCL sponsored Roundtable in Knoxville when he practiced there. Kevin cares about his clients. He fights for his clients. He wants to know who his clients and their families are, not just the charges they are facing. He brings experience, integrity, hard work, and courtroom skills to the table for every client who walks in his office, no matter what the charge he or she is facing.
