About

Kent M. Smith is a member of Scheldrup Blades. He practices in the areas of workers’ compensation, insurance defense, immigration law, civil litigation and employment law.  Mr. Smith received his B.A. from Central College in Pella, Iowa, and his J.D. degree and Legislative Practice Certificate from Drake Law School in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was selected by the Drake Law School faculty to be a pupil member of the C. Edwin Moore Inn of Court. Mr. Smith served as a prosecuting intern in the Dallas County Attorney’s Office and participated in the Advanced Criminal Law Program at the Drake Law Legal Clinic.Mr. Smith interned for United States Senator Charles Grassley in Washington, D.C., and for Iowa State Senator Larry McKibben.  He also lobbied on behalf of various industries and associations at the state and federal levels of government.  Mr. Smith is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association (serving on the Membership Committee), Nebraska Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute and the Iowa Association of Workers' Compensation Lawyers.  He is a frequent lecturer on workers’ compensation, civil litigation matters and employment law.  Mr. Smith serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit corporation Systems Unlimited, Inc.  Additionally, he has been published in DRI's For The Defense: The Intoxication Defense in Workers' Compensation, September 2009, and DRI's Trucking Policyholder's Duty to Preserve Coverage publication.
