Kayla is an attorney licensed to practice in the state courts and Supreme Court of Arkansas and the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas. She graduated Arkansas State Unversity in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She went on to graduate from the William H. Bowen School of Law at UALR in 2011.Kayla is a passionate advocate who has always loved the law and competed in a forensic debate in high school and college before fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. While in law school, Kayla was a member of numerous student organizations and served as Chief Honor Justice. Kayla received the Top Paper award for Lawyering Skills.   After passing the bar exam, Kayla joined Taylor & Taylor Law Firm P.A. as an Associate Attorney, representing clients in personal injury, debt collection, and appellate matters. Kayla then opened her own practice, The Applegate Firm, PLLC, which focused on representing individuals and businesses in a variety of civil matters. Since joining James, House & Downing, Kayla’s practice has focused on representing both individual and businesses in family law matters, business and civil litigation and personal injury litigation.Kayla is an avid cyclist and has also dedicated a portion of her practice to bicycle and pedestrian crashes resulting in injury, as well as bicycle advocacy.

I had a difficult disability settlement with a private company. Kayla did her research which I learned is a very strong area for her. She is very hard for the opposing council to read which works on her clients behalf. She got it done and I am pleased.
