About
After approximately 28 years in the courtroom, I have settled into practicing exclusively family law for both professional and personal reasons. As a Colorado native, I attended Heritage High School in Littleton and Colorado State University in Ft. Collins on a Colorado Scholars Award and President’s Scholarship. In 1986, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors Program with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. I knew that law school was my calling, but also wanted to experience life outside of Colorado.

Kathryn did a great job for me in a sensitive protection order matter, and kept her composure despite a slight curve ball on the day of the hearing.
Kathryn has been and remains an incredible advocate for me. My case has gone on for MUCH longer than any of us has expected! She has been with me every step of the way. She has encouraged and guided me through every obstacle and frustration we face. Her knowledge of the system, requirements, and what to expect have been an invaluable asset to me and my children. I cannot imagine going through this without her in my corner! If you are looking for someone you can trust, that will be there for you, and that you know will fight for YOU every step of the way you have found her!!
Kathy is an attorney that does not fit the stereotype that many hold re attorneys. First of all, she is understanding, supportive and will give her all and never give up on you and your loved ones. I am going through a divorce after a very long marriage and she has been nothing but supportive. She also has been attentive to my budget since my husband (almost-ex!) makes significantly more than I. She is very clear from the get-go that she will stop at nothing. (If you want a laugh, when I called their office last summer in search of a great attorney, the woman who answered the phone and listened to me sob, said, "I have the perfect attorney for you here. We call her The Beast.") I hasten to add what the support person was implying is that she shirks at nothing and works unflinchingly. In no way, is Ms. Nelson lacking in people skills or aggressive in a nasty way; she is simply devoted to helping families. I also think it's important to note the opposing counsel in this case has actually snickered and acted condescendingly both in and out of court. I have been insulted and appalled by this person's seeming lack of professionalism. Even when this person acted in the aforementioned way, Ms. Nelson never lost her footing in the trial. I had never seen an attorney except for making a will before. I did not know what to expect but I certainly didn't expect a kind, sensitive and really strong woman who buoys me and reminds me of the long term goals. It has been an expensive process but I highly recommend her. Think of it this way--you can hire any old attorney for a song or spend more knowing that the cash outlay will pay long-term dividends.
she did a terrible job. not prepared, complaining constantly. rolled her eyes at the judge and he was bitter towards us the rest of the hearing. she lost everything for me..poor excuse for a lawyer..over charges for work she doesn't do..
Ms. Nelson was a replacement for my attorney who went on maternity leave. To be fair to Ms. Nelson, she came in during the last 6 weeks of my case, however she was also going through her own divorce and she was clearly more concerned about her own situation to pay attention to mine. Due to her not proof-reading her own documents submitted to the court, she cost me thousands of dollars. i would never recommend her.
