About
My immigration practice specializes in family-based immigration for all types of families throughout the U.S., including LGBT bi-national couples who now have the right to petition for permanent residence through marriage. I am a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, have offices in the Philadelphia suburbs and in New York City, and can (and often do!) represent immigration clients in all 50 states and around the world. For example, within the past five years, we have represented clients from over 60 different countries and from 20 different states. My goal as an attorney is to not only guide my clients through the immigration process with expert advice, but to also be extremely responsive to my clients' questions and concerns. When you work with my law practice, you will be directly in touch with me and my law partner. We do not hand off our clients to paralegals or case managers. And we try to promptly return all calls and e-mails -- usually within one business day. While we do not offer free consultations, our policy is that if you retain us to represent you after a consultation, we then apply the consultation fee as a pre-payment of part of the overall attorney's fee. We will work with you to put together a reasonable attorney's fee plan that takes into account your financial situation. I work with immigrants from all backgrounds and from all types of families, but I have particular expertise in working with gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender individuals and bi-national couples through the immigration process. Prior to the Defense of Marriage Act ("DOMA") being struck down by the Supreme Court in June 2013, same-sex couples were discriminated against by federal law, and could not seek immigration benefits for their foreign national spouses. But now that DOMA has been defeated, we have filed petitions on behalf of over one hundred same-sex married couples with great success. Some of these couples had been waiting decades for the opportunity to petition for permanent residence. There are still special considerations for LGBT couples in the immigration process, but we help guide same-sex couples through the process with the expertise and responsiveness that make our law practice unique. We actually have a website dedicated to issues arising for LGBT immigrants, https://www.lgbtimmigrationlaw.com. To set up a consultation, please call or e-mail us. Thank you for considering our law firm. (*Please note that my offices are by appointment only and do not accept walk-in clients. If you would like to speak with us or set up a time to meet with us, please call or e-mail me.)

I first worked with Kate and her law firm partner (and husband) Alex in 2014 when I needed help in my petition to obtain a marriage-based conditional resident status. I worked with her again in 2017 in order to get the conditions removed and receive full resident status, and I’m now working with her again in 2018 in order to become a naturalized citizen. Kate has proven herself time and again to be a consummate professional with an extensive knowledge and understanding of her area of expertise, and on top of that, she’s an extremely nice person who makes you feel that she truly cares about your situation and will do whatever it takes to bring it to a successful conclusion. She also makes herself available to you at any and all times, never once giving you the feeling that you’ve been neglected. I would recommend hiring Kate unreservedly and I feel extraordinarily fortunate that I came across her and her husband’s law practice when I did.
Kate was fantastic guiding me through the Green Card process. She was prompt, efficient and always responsive. She was always available by phone or email if I needed extra guidance. I really liked her approach. She's relatable, reliable and really nice! And in the end I got the card with little hassle.
Best Immigration Lawyer, I highly recommend, Kate was fantastic My Wife and I hired Kate and her partner to help us with the immigration process. While most of interaction was with her partner Alex, both are best, don't worry about consultation fee, you will be glad you pay and hire after, no word how good they are. Thanks Alex and Kate
Kate & her husband Alex helped my husband & me to navigate an arduous seven-year immigration process, from marriage to green card to citizenship. Their astute counsel served us perfectly every step of the way. Our experience was as stressless as possible thanks to them. We highly recommend them!
My Wife and I hired Kate and her partner to help us with the immigration process. While most of our in person interaction was with her partner Alex, Kate was still very much present in the whole process. She kept updating us on each change with out case, as well as help with anything we required, from filling in the myriad of forms to making sure the varied documents we collected were just right. Kate provided my wife and I with fantastic help and service!
We hired Kate and her partner, Alex to help us with our petition for a green card based on a marriage. We were a little nervous about the application process because of the circumstances around our marriage - we are a gay couple with a significant age difference. Both Kate and Alex were amazing throughout the entire process. They helped us get our paperwork together, submitted it, prepared us for the interview process by running trial interviews and also accompanied us for the actual process. Everything went well without any trouble and we got the green card weeks later. Cannot recommend them enough!
Thanks a lot Kate, for Your help and very strong professionalism. For the Your responsibility, quality training and support us, during our interview. Your nice care and attitude attentive to us, helped to get our target. We wish You health, profession success and a lot of satisfied customers to you.
In my opinion Kate is the best immigration lawyer anyone could ever work with. Her knowledge and expertise is impeccable, and also extremely supportive. The immigration process is extensive and overwhelming and we would never have been able to do this without her. I would not recommend anyone going through the process without professional assistance. Kate always put us at ease by explaining each process and correctly predicting what to anticipate. My spouse also had a child and Kate was able to assist with the K2 visa as well. If you are an LGBT couple I would recommend you hire Kate she is an advocate for equality. Our experience was extremely positive and we are married and a very happy family.
My wife and I contacted the Brophy & Lenahan P.C after doing some google re search on lgbt inmigration attorneys. We got a free consultation over the phone and they walked us trought the process . We were very pleased so we hired them shortly after. They split out payments to make it comfortable for us . We always had great communication via email and if I ever felt uneasy about something they were always willing to skype us. I know they do office visits as well but we preferred to do skype/phone because it was easier for my wife and I . Don't think this will be any less formal! Everytime they got a letter regarding my case they inmediatly forwarded it to us. Our adjustment of status interview was February 7th and despite it being a rainy day Kate Lenahan was on time and prepared and made us feel so comfortable . She checked us in and then sat with us to go over all our paper work. We were called in and she sat next to us and helped us pull out all the paper work the officer was asking for. I am so happy she mentioned at the end of the interview if they could stamp my passport because we have a honeymoon trip booked for Peru , and so they did but i've heard this in not very common but if it wasn't for her mentioning it i wouldn't have had it stamped and maybe i would of had to postpone my trip. Overall we are so happy we hire them! The whole process can be long and confusing and I admire people who go ahead and do it themselves but having them made this whole process much easier and pleasant and we didn't want to take the chance to miss any information and be delayed . Thank you so much Alex and Kate! we can't thank you enough!
Kate Lenahan made our marriage green card application process smooth and simple. After it was all submitted it was hard to believe how much paperwork we had amassed but Kate made it all seem easy. She expertly helped us prepare for the interview and was there with us at the USCIS office the entire time. Our application was approved immediately after the interview with no issues.
