I hired Kathy about 5 years ago to help with my divorce. She was able to help guide me with split custody and filing for help with child support. After many years of custody issues and lack of support issues she would then help guide me with those as well. Eventually I would need Kathy to help me with an emergency full custody order that would in turn lead into a termination of rights and adoption of my daughter by her step father. During the entire process Kathy was professional and supportive of the emotional battle we would endure. She always answered my questions and made sure I understood each step. I can’t thank her enough for all she has done for my family.
Kathy was my lawyer during an incredibly contentious divorce and dissolution. She came highly recommended, and I'm so glad I chose her to represent me. I live out of state but for the Delaware divorce, Kathy was happy to work with me far away, and was superb at keeping in touch with me. She went to bat for me over and over. We only met face to face a few times including a grueling hearing, but we had a good connection and I always felt I could trust her expertise and knowledge, combined with her quiet and confident, yet tough demeanor. I consider Kathy a friend, and I would recommend her absolutely.
Kathryn was very empathetic and knowledgeable in explaining my rights and helping me resolve what I thought would be a real battle for custody of my kids.
I worked with Kathy on a very complicated and emotional divorce and custody. My case was difficult for a variety of reasons and Kathy was able to navigate through all the difficulties and constantly reassure me that everything was going to be okay. And, she was right. She was very responsive to all my questions, and I had tons. I never had a problem reaching her and talked to her "after hours" a lot as well. I truly felt she cared about the wellbeing of me and my children. She prepared me fully for every court hearing and clearly explained all the different processes within the family court. I would 100% recommend her to anyone seeking an attorney. Her years of experience are very evident in her work. A+++
The process of divorce can be quite emotional and overwhelming. Having said that, I am thankful that I hired Kathy Laffey as my lawyer. I asked family and friends if they knew of a "good" lawyer. And 3 different people (who did not know each other) suggested Kathy Laffey ... All stating that she was "the best"! Her professionalism will speak for itself. But the bonus for me was her constant support and respect for my feelings and opinions during this trying time. And at the end of the day ... I was more than happy with the results. Teaming up with Kathy was a Win/Win for me!
I have over 10 years experience personally with Mrs. Laffey and if you want the best of the best look no further. She is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced in all fields of family law. She genuinely cares about your case and your situation and does whatever she can to improve it and do what is best for everyone involved. She is a fantastic mediator on all fronts especially dealing with other parties attorneys in the courtroom and with you personally. She is definitely an advocate for children and wants to see them happy healthy and growing through these trying times. She responds to any inquiries emails or phone calls with prompt attention and goes out of her way to find a solution for your particular case. She's extremely easy to engage with and you will not be disappointed with her services. I can not sing her praises enough. So if you want your case handled professionally proficiently and with a touch of TLC I highly recommend that you call her you won't regret your decision.
I consulted on a child custody and divorce matter. Her assistant called me an hour before my appointment to try and postpone or cancel it we postponed for a later time but when Kathy came to the meeting she had her nephew with her she was very distracted nephew interrupting our meeting we discussed about custody matters and divorce matters and she was going to find out information on international custody, she never did. I called and emailed the office several times to obtain further information as far as the custody because I am an international resident but she never got back to me just to validate what I would have needed to do as far as the custody. she is pricey for her service and she does not provide the most efficient services please do not waste your time.
Had a meeting to discuss the need for a separation agreenent. Even though everything was already handled she recommended proceeding. More than 3 weeks abs several reminder calls passed before she mailed me the agreement which had errors. I never received a hard copy just the emailed drafts. I was billed for the agreement as well as the emails to send it to me. The court advised it was unnecessary. I notified her on May 30 that I was terminating her services and it took until July 12 to get the balance of my retainer returned and only then after I sent a certified letter.
We hired Mrs. Laffey to mediate a contentious divorce. Her price is more expensive than some others in the area, but we wanted to hire someone who specifically handles divorce mediation. When we sat down with her, we were horrified that she insisted that we spend hours working out every bit of math on an unorganized scribble-covered legal pad (and doing the math in her head), rather than using the spreadsheets we had prepared, and previously agreed upon. Every question she asked seemed designed to delay us. For our questions, she often responded that she would have to look up the answer. A week after that meeting (which ended without actionable next steps), when we asked her if she would look at some updated agreements for us, she pushed us to meet again in person. We declined (since all we wanted was a brief review), and she didn't get back to us for weeks -- despite repeated inquiries. As we worked forward it became clear that the ONLY time Mrs. Laffey will reply to your contact requests is if you are requesting an in-person meeting or something time consuming which will eat up your retainer. My ex and I worked our way through the divorce without her -- despite our differences we could agree that she was unhelpful and time-wasting. And, unsurprisingly, she was unresponsive for a long time to our requests to return the remains of the retainer. All contact requests were ignored. Eventually, however, she did return the remaining amount.
