I initially met Julie at a business networking event for the LGBT community and was immediately drawn to her silent strength and warmth. Little did I know 2 months later, I would need her legal support during a DV charge (June 2012). Not only did Julie begin making immediate moves to fully understand my charges and what was happening with my case and report back, she reviewed with the DA's office and reported back daily with reassurance, urgency and enthusiasm for success. Julie appreciates and understands the overwhelm that a criminal circumstance can cause for someone. Her legal guidance and initiative is incredible and I am grateful that our paths crossed. Otherwise my emotional state and world would be in a completely different place. With Julies deep legal experience and knowledge, I knew in Julie's capable hands, the final outcome would be the best it could possibly be and my life has gotten on track at twice the speed I expected with half the emotion and frustration I feared. Julie will be my legal champ of choice in the confusing "ring" of law anyday.
I was arrested for a probation violation in 2016 because cops came to my hotel room door threatening to file a huge case on me. On 10/18/16 my dad gave Julie Swain 5,000$ to represent me because we thought we would need a good lawyer to help me with the new case, she came to represent me at my PV hearing, and the judge sentenced me to 45 days. (Pretty average, a public defender could have done this, the only reason we had Julie was for the big case) well, later on Julie says that for the case looks a lot trickier than she thought originally and that she was going to need more money. On 10/28/16 my dad gave Julie Swain another 5 thousand in good faith that she would represent me on this big case. Well, the big case never got filed. We decided to just leave Julie on retainer in case they decided to file on me after I got out - we’ll they never did- so today, now that I have been clean and sober and know no more trouble is going to be comming my way- I asked Julie for a partial refund because she never represented me on the case we hired her for... I didn’t think this would be an issue, I honestly was expecting the other 5k back atleast but Julie informs me that I am in fact getting NO money back....WHAT?! I tell her how is that fair if the case never got filed , and she said that it didn’t matter, that apparently visiting me in jail once and going to my probation hearing once was enough for her to take both retainers from my dad (a total of TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS) I’m honestly so upset. I was hoping Julie would be a lawyer with integrity but she’s just like the rest. She tried to butter me up and pretend like she cared about how I was doing - just so that she could drop the bomb on me that I wasn’t getting a cent from her back. If you are unfortunate enough to hire Julie Swain, I wouldn’t give her anything up front, and I damn sure wouldn’t give her any money in trust because you most likely won’t get it back. Julie, I’m disappointed, this is a huge amount of money, and I’m honestly destroyed with how little regard you had for my family and I.
