About

I am a member of the Workers' Compensation Department of Bovis, Kyle & Burch, LLC. I graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1985.  Upon moving to Georgia in 1987 and having left the Tax Exempt Municipal Bond Practice of the Law Firm of Balch & Bingham, I began my practice as a trial lawyer, focusing in the area of Insurance Defense.  Initially, my practice consisted in the representation of Insurance Companies and their Insureds, primarily in the area of automobile claim defense, medical malpractice defense and Workers’ Compensation defense. Beginning in 1989, I focused my practice in the area of Workers’ Compensation defense.  Since 1987, I have been lead defense counsel in more than 1000 Workers’ Compensation claims, have successfully negotiated settlements in approximately 380 of those claims, and have tried more than 520 claims to a defense verdict. Over the course of my career, I have taken more than 500 Claimant’s depositions and 200 doctor’s depositions, having handled a wide variety of injury claims (I.e., back injury, CTS, heart attacks, stroke, brain trauma and death), covering a broad spectrum of legal issues (i.e., coverage, Statute of Limitations, change in condition and statutory employer). My appellate experience includes appeals before the Appellate Division of the State Board of Workers’ Compensation, various Georgia Superior Courts and the Georgia Court of Appeals.  I have lectured at both continuing legal education seminars throughout the State and at “in-house” client seminars - workshops on claims handling and legal issues for the employer, insurer and third party administrator. I am active in the Atlanata & Georgia bar associations, have had articles published in “The Atlanta Claims Scene”, the Monthly Trade Journal of the Atlanta Claims Association and have given lectures to business and insurance professionals at venues throughout the State of Georgia on various Workers' Compensation topics such as:  A Historical Overview of the System; Defenses Available to the Employer/Insurer; The Importance of a Valid Panel; and A Legislative, Statutory and Case Law Update. You my reach me by phone at the firm's offices in Atlanta, GA, (770)391-9100, extension 3969, or by email there, [email protected] E. Lon Strickland, is paralegal, is personable, helpful, and knowledgeable on all of my cases.  He can be reached at extension 3940.<!-- END OF body -->
