Mr. Sutton is one of the strongest legal council in the state of Idaho. He has assisted my family and friends for generations and continues to serve the people in this state with grace, honesty and dignity. His 40+ years of strong values and legal etiquette has always proven himself in and outside of the courtroom. Legal council for criminal justice is his strong suit but sometimes under appreciated per the previous and only bad review on this site. I guess you can't please everyone. Perhaps that one bad review just simply didn't want to pay his or her bill? I am aware that Mr. Sutton has represented in business one of the former governor's, as well as many other reputable people and organizations in and around our state. Mr. Sutton does more than criminal law. He helped me in a civil case with stellar results. Thank You John and your amazing staff for all you do! Many appreciate you!

Last year, I was stopped for running through a yellow light that turned red at an intersection in downtown Boise. As the police approached my car, I knew they would ask me where I was coming from and of course once I told them “a restaurant.” Their next question to me was, “have you had anything to drink?” That’s when I knew I was in trouble. I literally had two drinks. Two! But for some reason, my alcohol level was over the limit. I was taken to jail and charged with a DUI. Devastating! I’ve never been in trouble with the law, I never get into trouble, and here I was a 63-year-old woman being charged with a DUI. Mr. Sutton was highly recommended to me by a friend. I called his office panicking Monday morning to see how he could help me. I was devastated over the situation throughout the weekend waiting to get into his office, scared, nervous, embarrassed and ashamed. Mr. Sutton saw me that afternoon and calmed me down immediately. He assured me the best thing I could do was to try to relax and let him go forward and do what he does best... defend me. I put all my faith in him. Mr. Sutton ordered the police report, the tape of the incident, made sure the policeman were certified to give the breath test, and other important pieces of evidence that would be needed to try and release me of this awful charge. I was barely over the 8.0 limit, 8.5 the second time I had to blow in the machine. But I was still arrested.  On my hearing date, Mr. Sutton had me come to court, but I didn't have to go into the court room before the Judge. I just stayed in a conference room awaiting my sentence. He said he would go before the Judge and plead my case for me and if I needed I to appear, he would come and get me. After about 15 minutes Mr. Sutton came into the conference room, and said the judge gave me a "With Held Judgement." Meaning, after a year, this charge would be off my record. I couldn't believe it. Mr. Sutton did what he said he would do... handle my case and win it for me. I was so relieved and over joyed I was ready to cry. Mr. Suttons law student, Tracy was very supportive of me also. Every time I called the office, if Mr. Sutton was not available, Stacy was there to answer my questions. I highly recommend Mr. Sutton, should you find yourself in a situation where it concerns your reputation, the shame of the crime, the humiliation of the ordeal by law enforcement, and the entire emotional trauma that you can go through after experiencing something like this.  Mr. Sutton gave me my dignity back. I will forever be grateful to him for the hard work, his dedication and overall concern for me, as his client. in fighting my case for me.

Four & a half years ago I was involved in a situation where another group of people brought a fight to me at my house, and then they grabbed a gun. Even though I proceeded to defend myself, warding off the 3 other people, I was arrested on 2 felonies. After I was bailed out of jail, I shopped for an attorney throughout the whole southern half of Idaho. I quickly learned that an attorney's attitude towards your case is a direct reflection of what your outcome is likely to be. All that John wanted from start was the truth, which I gladly offered. Eventually, my case was dismissed in Owyhee Co., and it was handed over to the USAF where I was court-martialed. There, I found myself facing 3 felonies, 2 misdemeanors, and 15 years at Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. After a 3 day trial, with Mr. John Sutton on my side, and the truth prevailing, I'm proud to say that I have heard "We the jury hear by find the defendant (my name) not guilty all charges". A full acquittal is what John was after, and a full acquittal is what John and I received. The reference that sent me to him said "he gets what he wants in the courtroom", and I can attest to that. He's not there to judge you or your character, he's only after the truth. I'm thankful everyday to be a free man, that I get to continue doing my job in the USAF, and I would not be where I am today without John. Thank you!

Years ago I divorced my wife and in my divorce I lost everything. At the time I did not have John as my attorney. My ex filed for full custody and accused me of abusing our child. I immediately retained John after hearing many wonderful things about him. The end result of my case with John's representation was everything I wanted and more. John proved my ex was lying and I got to keep custody of my child, and my ex has to pay even more child support than before. Excellent trial attorney, excellent and super friendly staff, and pays attention to your needs. John is the attorney you should hire if you want to win your custody case. He has tons of experience and the other lawyer and the judge really seemed to like him and respect what he was saying.

John met with me quickly, laid my fears to rest and helped me handle a custody issue. He was able to call the other attorney and settle everything so we didn't have to go to trial. I am so happy with how things worked out and will refer all of my friends to John.

I went to John with a small issue I was having with a mechanic shop. They had messed up my car after a simple alignment and caused several hundred dollars worth of damage. John quickly looked into it, drafted up the appropriate letters and sovled my issues in no time at all! Honestly, I have no idea what the other 2 reviews are saying. Prior to working with John, I researched him on the state bar. There were no complaints and nothing to suggest any of the good things I heard about him were false. If what the other complaints were saying had any truth to them, I would expect the Bar would have heard about it and made it public. I HIGHLY recommend John Sutton! He is professional and will take care of you! I hope I never need to call him again, but if I do, Im glad hes there!

John Sutton was all gushing with confidence and support given all information about a case, made very clear to him about the specifics. He was late to court, late night conversations (b/c) he wouldn't return phone or emails during the day...so later night conversations were slurred and nonsensical on his end. He was not only not prepared at court, which were continually delayed due to his negligence and lack of preparation and had no answers or defense for the judge that Sutton should have known. These were discussed and he had all the information on this case of innocence. He was trying a case of innocence that was easily provable had he done any research or remembered the specifics of the case as well as evidence that would easily show innocence, He failed to asked opposing counsel questions, or demonstrated any facts in the case or request the information that PROVED this was the wrong person. The outcome, due to his lack of counsel resulted negative on our behalf. He didn't care, was unprepared and mostly appeared incapacitated. The only thing he seemed to be on top of, thanks to his office manager was the continual billing. Bad, bad deal. Look elsewhere. I write reviews with integrity. Good reviews so many are deserving, but not reviewed by many and they mean so much. Negative reviews, I think long and hard about knowing how serious they should be before you put that out there, so my negatives are very seldom. This negative review not only is warranted, but very deserving. I would represent myself or a family member before I would use this cluster of mistakes named John E Sutton. Sad but true. Look elsewhere for you own sake.

Terrible service. Late for court, slow to. No responses to emails and phone calls, late sending court documents, terrible billing practices. basically ignored once retainer was paid. Office is disorganized and dysfunctional in my opinion. Would never use them again.

John did not return any of my phone calls after he was hired . Once I hired him and paid him, all communication on his part ended and he never showed up to my court dates. When paperwork was due to be handed in, he would literally do it the day before. John also refused to be fired. I called and fired him at which point, he continued to charge me and act as my lawyer. I called over and over again firing him. I also fired him speaking directly to his secretary numerous times since he would not get on the phone, to no avail. He then refused to work and provide paperwork to my new attorney. My case was prolonged due to John's absence at court dates and the fact that I had to hire new representation.
