At the time of hiring John, I wasn't in a financial situation to retain the lawyer I'd heard good things about, so I retained John. Long story short, John stopped communicating with me regarding my case about 2 years ago and now (currently), the child support system is showing me behind on child support when I have not been late/missed a payment in over 2 years. After mistakes were found in the paperwork he submitted and signed off on, he was suppose to be re-doing the child support numbers. After the corrections were made (or so I thought), he kept telling me "I'm in court", "can't talk right now", "the order is circulating". After weeks of no response via phone, text or email, I quit attempting to contact him. Needless to say, the order wasn't "being circulated" and was never submitted to the court like he said he would do. The incorrect numbers are still in the hands of the court (and child support system) andnow, I am facing this issue because of his lack of following through on his part. Tip to anyone thinking of retaining him: DON'T. If it is because his fees are less, you will pay more in the long run to fix what he screws up. Pay to retain a lawyer with a well-known reputation for handling your specific type of case. Clearly, divorce and correct child support numbers (based on paperwork to back it up) are not his forte.

At the beginning of a federal case he talked a big game. Once the process started and money was given. He always asked for extension with court because he didn't have proper documents. He doesn't answer or return phone calls. Then when you go in the office unannounced after calling that he wasn't there, he's actually in the office and he's very rude. Has an attitude when you catch him not telling the truth. His favorite words are " I'm handling it" "these things take time" when it was time to go to court he didn't know ANYTHING. He seemed lost. It was a shame that the prosecutor looked at him and shaked thier heads at how lost he was. I wouldn't hire him at all.

Hired Mr. Keffer to represent me in a custody hearing for my son. Before hiring him he talked a big game and after being retained as my attorney he quickly changed his tune. Refuses to answer or return phone calls and very disrespectful when spoken to. Eventually had to retain another attorney to accompany me to my custody trial after Mr. Keffer walked out on me in the middle of a mediation hearing with my child’s mother. Would not recommend to my worst enemy and will be filing a complaint with the SC BAR association.

I hired John for a divorce and child custody lawyer. My ex wife and I are both active duty military and after or even during the divorce one of us could get orders and leave the state. From the beginning he has let me down. He submitted court documentation in the wrong format that wasn't considered for the trial due to his incorrect format. While he was my lawyer he very seldome returned my calls and I have several emails that went unanswered. He told me he would handle matters he never addressed and had me agree to false terms. He recommended I give up custody of my daughter when I told him she was the only thing I care about. I did give up custody because that's what he said to do. John said we could go back to court and change custody later. I didn't find out until later I would have to pay for both lawyers and a new guardian ad litem to re-enguage for joint custody. I told him about many matters that were time sensitive and he let them all come overdue. He miscalculated my child support and never told me the price I would be paying until I received the bill. I informed him of my 365 day deployment and requested my child support be recalculated and seven months later it is still is not done. On my 365 deployment my ex wife got orders to anotger state and relocated. While on R&R he lied to my face and said we had six months until her new state would pick up jurisdiction. I re-addressed my requests and he sent them to her lawyer and made clames that we would take her to court if she dosent agree. One month in he hasn't returned any emails until I engaged with him about them and his paralegal always responds. This time she responded look for a lawyer when I return from my deployment they don't have jurisdiction over the case one month after he told me we had six months. I would not recommend John keffer to anyone and will be looking into reporting him to the SC BAR and also seeing if I have a case for legal action on how he represented me and the how he advised me in my case. Please contact me if you have any questions. I don't want my name used until I have more detail from the bar.
