I was dealing with a terrible mess of a MEB, where I was trying everything I could to do the right things and everything just kept getting worse for me. On top of other things, my PEBLO had neglected to give me crucial information several times, then lied about it each time and gotten upset with me. I sent a midnight email to Mr. Gately explaining what was going on with my MEB and asking if he could help, and within hours he was on the phone with me and helping me turn things around. He was extremely knowledgeable, candid and forthcoming with all of the information I needed to know about the process ahead of me. He knew procedures, guidelines, rules, timelines, branch-specific requirements, you name it. Every one of his responses was prompt and helpful, both before and after I decided to hire him. He kept his head and a good attitude, and he made sure everything I needed for my case was done. He is not only extremely good at what he does, he is also passionate about helping people to get accurate findings from their MEB's and navigate the complicated and unforgiving process as painlessly as possible. When I hired Mr. Gately, I finally had someone on my side whom I could trust to help me get an accurate rating. The sudden surprises stopped, and I finally knew what was required of me. Mr. Gately kept me completely informed about the status of my MEB, diligently ensured all of my paperwork was accurate and submitted promptly to the right people no matter the time of day. I ended up permanently retired with 90% military and 100% VA disability. If I had not hired Mr. Gately and just relied on "help" from military resources, I believe I realistically could have lost everything. Words cannot express my satisfaction or my gratitude. If you feel like you're being given the run-around during your MEB process, I cannot recommend contacting Mr. Gately highly enough. I would hire him again in a heartbeat and pay him twice as much.

Mr. Gately is a passionate attorney who will go out of his way to help veterans. He will honestly tell you if you in fact need his assistance or not. My experience with him so far has been perfect. I say this because I reached out to Mr. Gately around 10PM on a Sunday and received a phone call the very next day. I spoke directly to him and no one else. He spent about 30 mins on the phone with me AT NO CHARGE going over the details of my TDRL case. He knew the names and background of everyone on the Physical Evaluation Board. He even knew the name of the clerk! Mr. Gately gets straight to it on the phone. He asked me to scan and email some medical examination docs over to him just so he can look over the exact wording in my exams and he literally emailed me back a few hours later with details on what my case is looking like for my TDRL re-evaluation. He also provided me with the contact information for the clerk at the PEB office so that I could hear directly from the source the status of my case. THANK GOD FOR THAT! I found out that my branch of service retirement office (MMSR-4) never forwarded my TDRL re-evaluation exams to the PEB. They were literally waiting on my re-evaluation exams for almost a year. Luckily I spoke to Mr. Gately before my pay was cut. I cant thank him enough. If you're a veteran going through any type of medical board, TDRL or going through the VA claim system you should, no, you need to call Mr. Gately ASAP. The things you will learn in 20-30 min conversation will truly set you up for success. His website literally says he offers free consultations. Don't think about it just make the call. Definitely will not regret it.

Mr. John "Jack" Gately was hired by my husband to take on a very complex, multifaceted military medical retirement case. After dealing with several family law attorneys in Illinois; my husband proceeded with caution when sifting through various military medical lawyers. With a combined total of 25 years of military experience in our household; it is very difficult to find someone that is 1. a Veteran 2. has the background and education to manipulate this very complex system and process. Mr. Gately has been in the game for several years; his no-nonsense approach is something that we appreciated immediately. He works hard to review thousands of documents, like a brain surgeon; he picks out the most important pieces to put it all together. It is really unfortunate that the VA does not provide lawyers of his caliber and candor. Service Member's generally cannot afford the fee associated with this process (Civilian Attorney) $7000.00-$10000.00. It is a GRAVE mistake not hiring an attorney like Mr. Gately to represent you on something that effects the rest of your life (Retirement and VA disability). It is easy to get frustrated, want to give up, and not want to trust someone with all of this confidential and difficult information; Mr. Gately has a caring disposition that allows you to have full confidence that he UNDERSTANDS this process, UNDERSTANDS YOU, and for a change you feel HEARD. He guides you through every single step, informs you of what the best course of action will be, and dedicates several late hours to call you when it is convenient for you. If you are looking for no bull, no non-sense, and someone who will work tirelessly for you; this is your attorney.

John Gately is the real deal. My husband was put up for a medical board to be discharged from the military. Immediately, we knew we had to get a lawyer and we knew that a military JAG lawyer wouldn’t be as aggressive as a private attorney would be to win the case. We spoke to many different law firms and they all told us the same thing: “Unless he plans on fighting to stay in the military, we cannot help you. There’s no way he can be medically retired.” Even his chain of command and his doctors told us that getting a lawyer would be a waste of time. They told us we would get the bare minimum from the military and if we fought the decision, we would loose and get nothing. Then we found Mr. Gately. He spoke with us at length about my husband’s case, his knowledge and experience in military medical board cases and with his own military background. He took my husband’s case right away. Throughout the process, he was with us every step of the way; he was always friendly, caring and sympathetic. Even with his other cases and living on the other side of the country, he always got paperwork needed for my husband’s medical board to us on time and it was always impeccable. My husband’s medical boarding findings came back with a permanent disability retirement rating. We didn’t even have to take the case to a formal board to fight for that rating. I believe that this is because of all the hard work and effort that Mr. Gately put into our case. If we hadn’t have hired him, I’m afraid the results would have not come back in our favor. With so many people fighting AGAINST you during the military medical board process (including your own chain of command) it is good to have someone with experience, knowledge and the drive to get you what you DESERVE in your corner. John Gately is that person.

This lawyer knows his stuff. I paid quite a bit of money for his retainer , but I didnt win my case. Do your research first. I could of used a military lawyer instead, and got the same results.

This lawyer knows his stuff. I paid quite a bit of money for his retainer , but I didnt win my case. Do your research first. I could of used a military lawyer instead, and got the same results.

This lawyer knows his stuff. I paid quite a bit of money for his retainer , but I didnt win my case. Do your research first. I could of used a military lawyer instead, and got the same results.
