About
I am not accepting new clients at this time as I'm closing my Winston-Salem office and joining a firm in Wilmington effective June 1. I've enjoyed practicing law here in Winston-Salem since 1987. I worked for 29 years with a local law firm with a broad general practice before joining a major regional insurance defense firm for almost two years. I am happy to have finally opened my own firm in 2018. I have always devoted a significant part of my practice to civil litigation concentrated in landlord-tenant and insurance matters. According to Martindale.com, my peers rate me as having high legal ability with very high ethical standards. I am a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, The North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, and The Forsyth County Bar Association. I am also an associate member of the Property Manager's Division of Winston-Sale Regional Association of Realtors where I periodically teach classes on landlord-tenant topics. Beyond the practice of law, I am a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church and serve as a lay leader in my local congregation. I greatly enjoy hiking and kayaking and spending time with my wife of nearly 30 years, our two daughters, and two Maltese dogs.

Mr. Fonda was so great,I really am satisfied with his work and the fact that there is no judgment with him he listened to my story and made me feel like I ca trust him I would definitely recommend him..
Knowledgeable, empathetic, funny, polite and reasonably priced. These are all descriptions of Attorney John R. Fonda of the Fonda Law Firm. I'm a Landlady with investment rental properties in the Triad. I met Attorney Fonda at the W/S Forsyth Co. Government Centers waiting area, along with other Landlords and Property Managers. As we waited for our hearings to be heard. When he walked in, I found him to be pleasantly approachable. He had us laughing and talking to each other. That really helped us ease the tension of the situation. We informed him that we were Landlords with eviction cases. He offered us his Landlord informational pamphlet of the legal do's and don'ts called "Landlord's Guide To Summary Ejectment Proceedings In North Carolina. That he wrote, and at no charge! My PROFESSIONAL TENANT had a Legal Aid Attorney that first delayed the case by continuance, then had the case dismissed. All of which the tenant and Section eight withheld rent for two months. I called the number on the pamphlet and hired Attorney Fonda to redo my case. He did an excellent job informing and advising me through email and phone calls. He understands and get what Landlords are up against in the Court System. As we have rights to. After sending the tenant a NOTICE OF DEFAULT letter and followed up by an ACTION FOR SUMMARY EJECTMENT NOTICE. This Professional Tenant couldn't flea the property fast enough. I would definitely retain his services again and refer him to other Landlords with the same problem I had. He is truly GOOD PEOPLE. Thanks, Attorney Fonda. Rhonda Underwood. Very professional he communicated with me throughout the process. I won my small claim with Mr. John Fonda’s help. I will definitely call on him again should I need his expertise.
I've been a landlord here in Winston-Salem for nearly 35 years. Unfortunately, I've had to evict several tenants during that time. Occasionally, i would hire an attorney to handle a case for me for various reasons. I would only hire Mr. John Fonda ever again if i needed one. I've had occasion to use his services a couple of times recently and am convinced he is the foremost expert on landlord - tenant law in the state of North Carolina. Mr. Fonda has an amazing knowledge in all that encompasses. Additionally, he has always shown great respect to myself, my former tenants and the court. I would give Mr. Fonda my highest recommendation to anyone requiring an attorney with respect to rental matters. Great Job!!
I hired Mr Fonda to help me with the eviction of some tenants I had renting my home. I had never had to do this and new very little of the whole process. He was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient with me and always available to answer my questions (and I had many). He went above and beyond my expectations and I would highly recommend him to anyone in need.
We have hired John Fonda on several occasions. His representation has been great.
John has helped us with several landlord tenant disputes over the years. He has always responded to our request quickly and professionally. He has been a advocate for the property management industry and volunteered his time to help others. There is no one else I trust when it comes to these issues.
