About

Mr. Donahue was appointed by the court to serve as Special Prosecutor in 1984 to examine the leaking of privileged information in juvenile court.  He is a fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, co-founder and Charter President of the DuPage Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, past Chair of the Criminal Law Committee, President of the DuPage County Bar (1992-1993) and Chair of the Illinois State Bar Criminal Justice Section (1992-1993).  He has been certified by the Illinois Supreme Court to act as lead counsel in death penalty cases, and screens other attorneys for certification. In June of 2000, Mr. Donahue was recognized by his peers as Lawyer of the Year.  On March 23, 2007, Mr. Donahue was inducted as a laureate of the Illinois Bar Association, joining a very select group of attorneys ever bestowed with this honor. Mr. Donahue has authored numerous articles on criminal practice and lectured in various areas of criminal defense, including drug cases, sexual abuse, DUIs, DNA evidence, eavesdropping, and defenses in homicide cases.  He has been selected to draft legal briefs on behalf of the Illinois State Bar Association in two important cases before the Illinois Supreme Court: People v. James, and King v. Secretary of State Ryan.  The Bar's position was upheld by the Supreme Court in both cases. In the past several years, in addition to numerous acquittals in drunk-driving cases, he has obtained favorable jury verdicts in several well-publicized sex abuse cases, reckless homicides, and other serious felony cases, including the last known acquittal in Illinois in the defense of attempted murder based upon organic brain syndrome, and an acquittal in a 1st Degree Murder case involving a child victim.  Mr. Donahue has been given the highest possible rating both by Martindale-Hubbell and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Guest speaker (2003): American Association of Psychiatry & the Law; Edward Hospital, Sexual Abuse Seminar; Kane County Bar Association on sentencing, and DuPage County Bar on effective closing arguments.

I was arrested for a computer related crime and faced multiple serious charges that could result in years of imprisonment and life-time registration. Without a fight, my second laywer suggested me to plea to one of the counts. I needed a tough fighter to represent me and that's when I found Jack. Jack took my case and turned it around. By focusing on the false statements made by the police throughout my case, Jack was able to beat all the original charges and got me a plea bargin that offered me a second chance to integrate back into the sociaty. If you are overly concerned by your attorney fees, don't talk to Jack. But if you are like me, who faced serious criminal charges and needed the best and toughest lawyer to defend myself from an overzealous and dishonest cop, Jack is the man you need talk to. Without doubt, Jack is the best hiring decision I ever made.

Approaches case realistically. Works well with prosecutors -well respected and honest. Jack is highly regarded in Chicago and the collar counties. More than an attorney -a no nonsense, very logical, brilliant and zealous advocate. Jack will stand up for you and get the best possible outcome on your behalf. Beyond being personally on your side, Jack is a legal scholar and at the top of his profession. Jack also gives back helping countless attorneys. His word is gold. All you have to do is follow his instructions to the T. If you want someone walking in the court with you who is known to be honest, forthright and brilliant, call him. Clearly with 40 years of experience Jack has been to trial a time or two. Easy choice. I hope he has time to help you as he did me.

Mr. Donahue represented me in a class-X felony case with 10+ charges, a Class-1 felony case with 3 charges, as well as 3 misdemeanor cases (all 5 unrelated). I could not have asked for either a better lawyer or better man to represent me. As a teen at the time and facing potentially spending a majority of my life in prison, Jack Donahue resolved every case in a way that allowed me to salvage my life and youth, and to this day I am able to continue as a student and start my graduate/PhD work next year. Words in a review and 5/5 stars cannot express my gratitude, however I suppose it would be a start. He is a man of outstanding character, and although I did not always like what he had to say about the status of my cases of the years, looking back I appreciate his brutal honesty. He never once sugarcoated anything and it prepared me for the severity of my situation. He actively got to know me as a person, and found a compromise with the state that he thought would be best for me. It certainly was. On another note, whenever he was unavailable (sick, out of the office on other cases, etc etc) his staff and partners at the firm treated me as if I was their own kid, and never once made me feel like a burden. He is by NO means a $100 lawyer you might see on a billboard with trashy slogans and bright colors, but if you can find any way to pay for his services, than he is the lawyer you want.

I hired Jack Donahue to represent me in a criminal matter - telling him the charges were bogus. He hired a private investigator and called off the investigation half way through. Told me to accept a plea deal, even though he never obtained the police reports or evidence. Had he done his job, he would have learned the police destroyed the evidence before I even had a chance to hire a lawyer, and that what evidence they did have in their possession was exculpatory. It is inexcusable that a defense attorney does not obtain police reports or evidence before telling a client to take a plea deal.
