This attorney comes off as trustworthy and honest, until you pay his retainer fee. Once I hired him as my attorney, I could not get in touch with him at all. He made numerous false statements, failed to file urgent documents in my case, failed to advise me when I was to appear in court, etc. The list goes on...I ended up doing 90% of the actual WORK in my own case, with more assistance from non-related parties than the guy I paid to represent me as my attorney. Last week, I sent him certified letter demanding my money back. Today in the mail, I received a letter from him dated the same day I sent my letter; he advised me that his license to practice law has been INDEFINITELY SUSPENDED BY THE MARYLAND COURT OF APPEALS ON BEHALF OF THE ATTORNEY GRIEVANCE COMMISSION UNTIL HE IS "FREE FROM THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOLISM AND ABLE TO PRACTICE LAW COMPETENTLY". Yes, I am serious, unfortunately. However, I feel worse for those that were negatively effected by his negligence that had NO IDEA how to file their own paperwork, or what to do to follow up on his actions (or lack thereof), as I am not an attorney, but am very knowledgable in the area that I needed his assistance. Most people hire attorneys because they don't know what to do; thankfully, I was able to navigate the legal system on my own, with very little assistance from him. If you hired John K. Burkhardt as your attorney, you should contact the MD Attorney Grievance Commission IMMEDIATELY.

Hired this guy for my wife in May 2012, I believe (been so long ago). For a simple Bankrupcty filing. Paid his fee (which is double what everyone else ask, I found out later) in full, supplied all paper work and every thing else asked within a week of when we first hired the guy. Now it's what? October! Our case hasn't even been filed yet!! I've called bunch of times and when he does answer there is always some B.S. He even went as far as " Yes I did file it. No I don't have the case number yet. I had to sign up and go on Pacer web site to find out he never filed. Yeah, stay away from this guy! I don't know what his problem is, but he now has me to contend with on top of it, cause now he's pissed me off and I'm not done with him.
