About
John is a supporter and advocate for utilizing the Collaborative Law process for divorces. While this process is not appropriate in all situations, he has found that it nearly always results in a resolution that both parties feel is a fair and balanced resolution of the legal issues. The nature of the process very often results in lower stress for the spouses, and permits there to be a true focus on the best interests of the children. The Collaborative Law process provides a confidential and interest focused solution that addresses the specific needs of the divorcing couple, and does so in a respectful, non-adversarial manner. To learn more about collaborative law, please go to the firm's website: www.BurkeLG.com. John has been concentrating on collaborative divorces since he first sought out the training on Collaborative Law at the beginning of 2006. Since then, he has represented over 50 clients as they went through the collaborative divorce process. John has also augmented his initial 52 hours of collaborative law training with approximately 100 hours of additional advanced collaborative practice training presented in state and national training venues including Tacoma, Chicago, San Diego, Minneapolis, and Montreal Canada. Something unique about John is that he brings an extensive mix of past experience to his law practice. Prior to attending law school at Gonzaga, John had a successful business management career in both banking and marketing companies, and also served the country as an Air Force officer for four years immediately after earning his bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota. John and his wife have 8 children and 11 grandchildren. He has volunteered for various youth groups, including the Boy Scouts in various positions including Scout Master and for 5 years as a Junior Achievement Advisor. He is an avid outdoorsman and do-it-yourselfer. He loves virtually all watersports, including scuba diving. He (or more accurately his wife) currently owns six horses. For new challenges, John earned his private pilot certificate in 2006.

John Burke represented me during my recent collaborative divorce. He was faced with the difficult task of coming on the case in the middle due to the illness of one of his colleagues. He made this transition as painless as possible and immediately made me feel comfortable and confident. He was extremely knowledgeable and I trusted him implecitly. He was dependable and always did what he said he would do when he said he would do it. During a collaborative divorce there can be moments when things become tense and John was very skillful in navigating us through those troubled waters. Going through a divorce is always a difficult experience, especially when you have been married over 40 years. Johns ability to calmly deal with frustrations, fears and occasional anger with kindness and compassion kept the process moving forward and I am very grateful for his service.
John Burke is a talented, experienced, collaborative lawyer. He is smart, direct, ethical and trustworthy. He uses these skills to obtain well balanced, thorough solutions to important family matters. Based on his experience in collaborative law, estate planning, and my direct experience with John's work, I highly recommend him.
John's experience and guidance proved extremely important to reach the resolution I was seeking. On numerous occasions he guided me around potential pitfalls that would have had significant negative ramificaions to my post divorce life. John maintained a clear understanding on what I my collaborative goals were and kept me on track from day one. I appreciated the fact he didn't nickle and dime me for small incidental time or for copies like my ex's attorney did. I felt John was with me to solve the bigger task at hand and not to seek charges for each and every little possible item.
John was my lawyer for a collaborative divorce. He was readily available and flexible in scheduling meetings. It is apparent that he has significant experience handling collaborative divorces. There was only one point when the process looked like it might get derailed, and he was instrumental to getting things back on course. My wife and I were able to divide our assets and map out the future in a way that best met our individual interests. Compared to a "traditional" adversarial approach, we saved time, money, and emotional energy. I would have preferred not to have to go through a divorce, but this was the best way of the options available.

Compared to a "traditional" adversarial approach, we saved time, money, and emotional energy. I would have preferred not to have to go through a divorce, but this was the best way of the options available.
