About
“Going through so many difficult issues with my late husband, parents, grandparents and aunt for long periods of time, I decided to apply my life experience and legal and business experience to counsel and assist other people. My work in business and finance has been a valuable asset in this process. It is more than just estate planning or long-term care or asset protection; it is life planning that should address and integrate all of these concerns. It also requires an understanding of what people are facing and the passion to help.” Prior to forming J.A. Keston Law, PLLC, Joan worked as an international legal consultant, and as a business attorney focusing on complex financial projects and acquisitions. She has worked with public and private corporations, start-ups and non-profit organizations. She has been a Faculty Advisor at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and on the Advisory Council at Kenan-Flagler’s Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). She has lived and worked in Europe, Brazil and North Africa. Most recently, Joan was a finalist for Wilma Magazine’s 2014 Women to Watch!

My husband and I recently completed a family trust along with all additional documents. Our personal situation was an unpleasant one and Joan's compassion and empathy made a difficult task almost pleasant. She guided us through the entire process with care and patience. We highly recommend her for your elder care planning as well as any legal advice in her area of expertise.
I have recommended Ms. Keston to a number of my clients with excellent results. She is an expert in this field. Her advice has proved to invaluable and her fees are very reasonable. Perhaps the best recommendation is that she represents my wife and me.
My husband & I were very pleased with Attorney Joan Keston's in-depth expertise & integrative approach to Elder Care, Estate Planning, Asset Protection, & expertise in the related NC legal documents. As a result, she prepared all our final documents for both of us, at a reasonable rate - our Last Wills & Testaments, General Durable Powers of Attorney, Advance Directives for a Natural Death (Living Wills), Health Care Powers of Attorney, & Authorizations for Release of Medical Information (HIPPA). We recommended her to four other couples who also established Trusts in addition to the above documents & they were equally pleased with her expertise & fees. We recommend her highly.
Joan has handled my affairs for 10 years now. She is always there for a quick question making sure you do not feel rushed. She thoroughly explains all the options making sure you are comfortable with the decisions being made. If you need a quick change to a will or a detailed trust created because you are new to North Carolina, Joan is the attorney for you. Thank you!!!!
Joan was professional, polite and efficient when completing our wills and personal documents. Any questions that I had were promptly answered, and explained to us. Prior to meeting with her, I had full understanding of what the fees would be, and what to expect during this process. She was a delight to deal with, and I have since contacted her for referrals, and have never been disappointed with the other professionals she has recommended for me.
Joan has been my attorney for several years now, and her work is flawless! She prepared our wills, power of attorney, and all other documents we needed for our personal situation. She advised my partner and I on every issue before us, and her advice is always spot on. Her upbeat personality, her ability to talk in language I can understand, and her broad knowledge of the law makes her the obvious choice!
If you are representing a parent, be careful. Paid $6000 for advice and runaround. Grand ideas. You still do all the work. If you're looking for Veterans benefits, go straight to the VA. do not waste your time or money. Disappointed. Received no benefits.
