Life can throw us a curve ball when we least expect it. I understand that because I’ve lived it. It’s also why I started my own firm, Ritchie Law, P.C. I’m here to provide compassionate expertise during the best and worst of life’s moments. It’s not just what I do; it’s simply who I am. Was I born to be an attorney? If you ask my parents, they would say I didn’t start talking; I started “debating.” I’m not sure about that but I do know I’ve always enjoyed meeting new people and helping others. Growing up in a military family helped shape who I am today.  I started working when I was sixteen and there was never a job too tough or a challenge too great for me. Whether I was a short order cook or stocking shelves, I prided myself on two things – a strong work ethic and leaving things much better than I found them. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Public Policy and took my degree and my work ethic to Washington, D.C. I had no job and no money, but I was determined to make great things happen for myself and for others. It was during my time working in D.C. that I decided to go to law school. The decision was easy; getting there was tough. A waitress by night, a law clerk by day and a law student around the clock made earning my law degree from the University of Pittsburgh challenging. I’m not sure I slept for three years, but it was worth it in the end. After graduation, I worked for several law firms, trying cases until I started at U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh. I worked as an attorney, first in their law department and then with the government affairs group. 2008 would be a game changer for me. That was the year I moved my career and my family to Northwest Indiana. Here, I finally feel truly at home. The sense of pride, hard work and strong values embodied in this part of the country resonate with me.   While Northwest Indiana is a great place to live, life is not always easy for the people who live and work here. Life can be tough and can take us to all kinds of places, some of them scary and unknown. It’s because of this that I made the decision in 2017 to begin my own practice. Knowing someone has your back and is handling things is what I’m here for, so you can focus on the important things in your life like family, work and community. My ability to organize, prioritize, collaborate and communicate is really what sets me apart.  Do I like being an attorney? I guess that depends on whether you only focus on Plan A. I’m a Plan B person and for me, the answer will always be yes.  Being an attorney allows me to make a difference one person at a time.
