Carl went way and beyond on my sons case, which turned out to be more then what i hired him for. He took our case thinking there was only one charge when there were many. I was a mess when i spoke to him giving him details on just one charge, he never blinked twice he says lets get to work, and thats what he did. He never over charged me, he took every phone call. And explained in detail what was going on and what could happen. He is a great Attorney anyone who hires him will be in good hands!
In 2005, Carl was recommended to me by a close friend that is also an attorney. His advice was spot on, and I'm pleased with the representation I received from Carl. I was charged with 3 felony marijuana charges and one misdemeanor. Kansas also has a drug tax stamp, which they happily helped themselves to from my bank account. Carl was able to get them to drop all charges, minus one felony and got 2/3rds of the tax money returned to me. Probation, and an early release at that was the end of my communication with Mr Cornwell. I was able to expunge the felony myself 3 years later.
Carl is an excellent lawyer. He handled two serious felony cases for me, one being drug related and one being a kidnapping charge. I really reccommend that you make sure you understand what is going on in your case. He is a great lawyer but is getting older and it feels as if sometimes he forgets to do things or maybe feels that it isn't needed. I ended up serving very little jail time and had to take a felony in the drug case, I feel a little more could have been done but regardless he did an effective job. I really recommend him on violent crimes more so than drug offenses. He is excellent in the court room as well and is liked by most every judge in Johnson County. Make sure your case is truly worth the money although he is not cheap, once again I highly recommend for violent crimes. He is a nice guy and has over thirty years experience.
Carl is a terrific lawyer! It's a shame the other individual who commented on here doesn't understand that sometimes people commit crimes and they just can't be gotten off, no matter who the attorney is. A lot depends on their history, severity of the crime, and the evidence against them. Carl did a great job for me. He got me a reduced sentence when other lawyers said it couldn't be done. If you paid 25,0000 to Carl Cornwell, then your case was probably pretty complex. The guy didn't gouge me at all. Highly recommend this lawyer!!
Carl is like the Wizard of Oz. All promises and zero delivery. Accused me of the crime during the trial rather than defending me. When I gave him facts to use he chose to deprecate and convict me instead of defending. It was a totally bogus charge and easily defended with facts, but Carl chose not to. Terrible!
We had high hopes when we retained Carl, but was later disappointed because he takes the easy way out once he is fully paid. He sides with the DA and encourages a plea deal to keep from going to trial. I know the outcome would have been totally different had he put in the work to defend my spouse. He doesn't live up to what you pay him to do, which is to fight until the end!
Represented (if you want to call it that) a close family member. Charged $25,000 and my family member got the usual sentence for his crime. Should have gone with a public defender. He makes you think he's getting you a "deal" and he's not. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
