About
Attorney Jennifer Nimer is known for her experience with immigration delay lawsuits – also known as Writs of Mandamus. She has filed over 130 federal lawsuits – not only against USCIS but also against U.S. embassies and consulates abroad. Mrs. Nimer believes that many applicants are unfairly labeled “security concerns” or are put in extended administrative processing without justification. Through her immigration delay litigation, she has reunited dozens of families – including children who were stuck abroad away from their parents, families affected by the travel ban and individuals applying for various types of non-immigrant visas.Mrs. Nimer has thus far successfully resolved over 20 lawsuits for nationals of Iran, Syria and Yemen who were subject to the travel ban and experienced unreasonable delay in issuance of a waiver. She is one of only a handful of attorneys who are currently filing lawsuits for individuals affected by the travel ban’s restrictions. She has also resolved dozens of H1B, F1, and J1 visa delay cases.Prior to opening her own firm, Mrs. Nimer worked for the Columbus Chapter CAIR-Ohio, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, from 2004 – 2018. She received her bachelor’s degree from Capital University in 2000, where she majored in Criminology and minored in Psychology. She earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Capital University Law School in 2003 with a concentration in Family Law.In 2017 she was appointed by the Franklin County Commissioners to a three-year term on the New American Advisory Council (“NAAC”). She previously served on the Board of Directors for the ACLU of Ohio for six years. She regularly gives presentations on immigration issues and the travel ban, and has frequently been interviewed by the media relating to immigration delay cases.Mrs. Nimer is admitted to practice law in Ohio, and is also admitted to federal courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio, Eastern District of Michigan, and the District of Columbia as well as the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) since 2011.

I was given DS 5535 form during H1 b drop box appointment. I did not get any update for almost 2 months, we sent several emails to embassy and even contacted senator and congressman but nothing helped. I was on without pay and my kids were missing school. We contacted Jennifer after almost 40-45 days and explained her the situation, she was very thorough and professional. We felt so confident and comfortable after talking to her that soon we will get clearance and this issue will be sorted. She filed the case in a week and in 3-4 weeks visa was issued. She is very responsive and understanding I would definitely recommend her.
Attorney Nimer was professional and always presented options in terms of dealing with the case. When most lawyers either did not know what to do or simply wanted to wait and see, attorney Nimer understood the time-sensitive nature of the case and proceeded with filing a mandamus. With her help, the mandamus was resolved in under 60 days, including holidays, and I am now able to finally attend in-person. During a time when I did not know if I could even attend my program, attorney Nimer's calm and confident approach allowed me to be where I am today.
I am a student seeking my educations in US. I applied for a student visa in a foreign US consulate. Unfortunately, my visa was delayed unreasonably therefore I had to defer my application in my school many times due to clearance check. All my attempts for reaching out to my consulate were not helpful. All the reasons and all the efforts for asking the consular officers for a long period of time did not help me at all. even the inquiry letters from my school or even inquiries from the State’s Senators did not help at all. I was so lucky that I got to know a pathway to help my case out of so called Administrative Processing. There were plenty of immigrant attorneys working on these issues. Many of them suggested me Mandamus Lawsuit.I took a tele-conversation appointment for consultation with some of them. Among the attorneys I researched, Jennifer Nimmer, was the only one really listened to my case, since my case was a little bit complex (as I had another immigrant visa in progress in parallel to my student visa). I noticed that Jennifer’s group is putting their effort to help applicants to get their rights and not suffer from unreasonable delays (in my case). I am very grateful for the time she allocated to resolve my case, the plenty of contacts she had with the US consulate and DOS’s attorney. Also, I am very thankful for his time to answer my concerns very patiently during the time my case was filed. God bless her and her group.
Jennifer Nimer helped solved my case of unending admin processing. I received the dreaded DS 5535 (for the 3rd time!) and she helped to get my visa issued within weeks of filing the WoM!
In November 2020 I was interviewed for my J1 visa at the US consulate at my country of residence. I am still a Cuban national but with more than 11 year residence abroad. At the end of the interview I received the request to fill up the ds5535 form and then my case was placed in administrative processing. With no natural solution of the case for over 6 months, I came across several lawyer on internet and ended up hiring Jennifer and her firm. The story short, my case was solved almost immediately. Jennifer and her team demonstrated not only a deep knowledge on the procedures and relevant laws, but they were very thorough, from constant communication and follow up to explanations and guidance. I absolutely recommend Jennifer for your immigration case and I myself would if I need that again. Thank you Jennifer for your help and dedication!
