Lisa represented me in my divorce proceedings. As you can imagine, it was an incredibly difficult and trying time made worse by the fact that my ex and I have a child who needed to be taken into consideration. Lisa was exactly what you want in an advocate. When I was overly emotional about things she acted as a heat sink to keep me focused and when I was down and struggling, and consequently thinking of giving up on rights and fights that I shouldn't, she was a zealous advocate and real firebrand. She kept me focused and grounded. Lisa understood exactly what my goals were and pursued them relentlessly even at times when I lost sight of them. My ex-wife hired one of the biggest most expensive firms in Philadelphia to oppose me and from day one they tried to throw their weight around. Lisa never batted an eyelash. She went toe to toe with them and forced them to back down when they and my ex-wife tired to bully me into accepting terrible settlements or truly vile restrictions on my parenting rights. In the end she secured a settlement that protected my rights and those of my daughter. I am a licensed attorney myself (I do not practice family law) and I would never ever hesitate to recommend Lisa to someone who finds themselves in the unfortunate situation of a divorce or custody battle.
Attorney Shapson represented me in my divorce matter. I am also an attorney (hence, the anonymous review) and my case should have been uncomplicated. I first appeared pro se, and received very poor treatment by the court. Had I agreed to the terms the judge "recommended," I would be in financial straights right now and would have lost my home (and more importantly, my daughter's home). Attorney Shapson represented me with ALL due diligence, competence, and compassion. I kept my home and the settlement and terms to which my ex-husband and I agreed were as fair as one can expect in a divorce. Months before retaining attorney Shapson, I consulted with a highly recommended attorney and her fee was almost three times what Attorney Shapson charged. (In fact, her fee would have cost me almost as much as I would have received in the settlement.) As a client and as an attorney who has handled divorce matters in the past, I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Stay away from this lawyer and don't trust her at all. Here is the story why? In the year 2014, I hired her because my ex file a false case against me for physical abuse by downloading some wound pictures from Internet. These pictures does not even have my ex's face. When I went to this lawyer's office, she said all good words and told me these evidences are all phony, so this case will not stand against you. At court hearing, this lawyer and her intern both met the opposing counsel, and five minutes before court hearing, this lawyer told me "we cannot win the case because your ex's has clear pictures of wounds and we have to compromise with opposing counsel, so we can get away with 3 years of PFA". I asked why do we need to compromise? I told her that these pictures are without her face and also I told her that we should request for police reports. This lawyer did not even bother to get police reports and just before the court hearing she kept pushing me to compromise with the opposing counsel. I had to agree the lawyer because there was no time for me to go for any other lawyer and I ended up with 3 years of PFA. I was really in confusion what to do and I don’t even know whether it is good to replace the lawyer with new one or not. I kept her till my second event. Now it is time for spousal support calculation; she used her "Spousal Support" calculation software installed on her office computer, the software gave correct amount. But at the time of Spousal Support hearing in front of the mediator, the came up with the amount which was double the amount which she determined using her office computer. On the day of spousal support conference, she, mediator, and opposing counsel went alone inside the mediator’s office to determine spousal support amount. They together came up with a very huge amount which I cannot even afford to pay because I have support my kids full-time. After leaving the court with disappointment, I hired a new lawyer. With the help of my new lawyer, I filed the case for spousal support modification. My new lawyer found out that previously assigned spousal support amount by court/mediator was not even in the court computer system because it was out-of-court settlement which my previous lawyer, Lisa Shapson, agreed with mediator and opposing counsel, and did not even inform me while getting my signature on the spousal support agreement paper. It is my humble request to the people, please stay away from this lady.
