About
I devote my practice to the aggressive, thorough representation of clients charged with DWI and other crimes. Minnesota's DWI laws have become increasingly complex. The interplay among criminal charges, loss of driving privileges, license plate impoundment, and vehicle forfeiture often require an experienced advocate to protect one's interests. I offer all prospective clients a free, in-depth consultation. If you've been charged with DWI or other offense, you're welcome to call me anytime to discuss whether you need, and can benefit from, a private attorney. I charge fixed, reasonable fees that vary based on the complexity of the case.

Jay is a very smart, intelligent and organized lawyer. He successfully downgraded my careless driving case to the best result I could have, during just 30-minute talk of hearing process. He is the most honest and straight forward lawyer I have contacted. Since I am not familiar with lots of legal terms and processes, he provided me more details and expressed his honest opinions even during free consultation. During hearing process, he negotiated offers back and forth, provided quick analysis and help me walk through the whole process. His over-10-year experience, Client-First service and honest opinions really won my trust. The only thing I regret is that I should have hired him earlier. Based on his knowledge and dedication, if I have had hired him earlier, I should have saved a lot of time and hassle. Jay is highly recommended.
When I got my first DWI, I was terrified at the consequences. When I got my second DWI a few months later, I thought my life was over. Luckily I hired Mr. Carey after my first one and he single handedly turned my life around and gave me a legitimate second chance. My first DWI got dropped to a careless driving, and my second one ended up only counting as my first DWI. No jail time, no ignition interlock. Lost my license for a very brief time but Jay made sure to help me get a work permit. I didn't lose my job and my life did not fall apart as most people's would've after getting arrested for DWI twice in a brief span of time. He even represented me in court at St. Cloud for my second which was quite a ways out of his way. I am truly thankful for having met this man and have since given up drinking completely to ensure I never need his help again!
I got 3rd Degree DWI first time in MN and not sure what to do? I spoke with Jay Carey and few Attorneys. I trusted Jay Carey because he gathered all the incident information from me first and analyzed what was required to proceed with the case. Also, Jay pointed out all Pros and Cons on my case and he suggested what needs to be followed. I am so grateful for Jay who helped me to come out of my case without Jail time, lesser Fine and got my license back. I appreciated his flexibility and willingness to answer all my questions and concerns. He Genuinely guided me through every single step. His fee was extremely affordable for me. I highly recommend Jay Carey to anyone who has DUI/DWI case.
I got my first DWI four or five years ago so when I was pulled over for broken headlights and blew a .09 it elevated the charges against me rather considerably. I called Jay initially just for a brief consultation but he ended up talking to me for more than a half hour, spelling out the road ahead and giving me very clear and detailed instructions on how to navigate the DMV’s numerous requirements to get my license valid again. Thanks to Jay, not only did I have Zero down time with my mobility, but it’s also worth mentioning that his excellent bedside manner did a lot to calm me down during what is a very stressful and scary time. Shortly thereafter I officially hired Mr Carey as my counsel and my day in court went so smoothly there’s almost nothing to say about it. I walked away with no jail time, just over two weeks of house arrest, a $300 fine, and 4 years of probation, very little of which is supervised at all. Jay even walked me over to the offices for my DWI assessment and talked to me about what sort of questions they would ask and what the outcome of that meeting would likely be (which he was right about). After my case was resolved and I was waiting for some paperwork I even saw Jay talking to a young man that couldn’t get a public defender, just giving him some advice because he seems like a genuinely caring guy. To put it bluntly, I couldn’t be more pleased with the quality of counsel I received from Mr Carey. If you have to have your day in court then you are going to want this man standing next to you.
Jay is a honest truthful attorney. I was from out of state and needed legal assistance for a traffic situation. Jay took the matter by the horn and got it taken case of seamlessly. He actually suggested that I could do DIY and save $. I didn't. I figured I would leave it to the expert. He's the go to person for the legal matters, reasonable fees as well. highly recommended!!
Jay was such a pleasure to work with. I had a unique situation where I had gotten a DUI as a passenger of an UBER vehicle. Long story short, my UBER vehicle had gotten into a collision on the hwy. When all vehicles came to a rest, one vehicle in particular had been obstructing the right traffic lane. Upon 911 Dispatch request, I moved the vehicle off of the road. Problem was, I had drank prior to going out that night. I admitted this to the officers on scene and was immediately given a sobriety test, to which I blew a .082. As a result, I had been arrested for a DUI. Not knowing what to do or who to call for help, I found Jay's ad on google search and decided to contact him. From the beginning Jay was eager to take on the case. Jay was diligent and knowledgable. I felt confident that he would know how to bring me the best result from this unique situation. To add complexity to my situation, not more than 2 months later, I had gotten my 2nd DUI. This was one I could not escape. I called Jay immediately. Although in a different county, Jay agreed to take this case as well. Working together, Jay was always realistic with me as we discussed the possible outcomes for both cases. He never gave me false hope or became over confident in his predeterminations. This allowed me to feel comfortable in regard to what was expected from each court's system. Over the course of a year, as result of Jay's diligent efforts and knowing what laws apply, he was able to get the first case (my UBER DUI) COMPLETELY DISMISSED and OFF THE BOOKS!! Like it never happened!! As for as the second case, we moved it along quickly and I had been granted a lower home monitoring program than originally suggested. Jay will also be assisting me in the request to release my probation from 4 years to an earlier date. When I had questions, Jay was reachable and responded to me in a timely manor. I also appreciate that Jay never made me feel as though I had been a hassle or burden. I have found that Jay excels in DUI Law and also multiple Minnesota Court Systems. I would not hesitate to recommend Jay to any person, including those who may also be in a unique situation.
I had the opportunity to work with Jay Carey for a vehicle violation incident in MN. He is the most honest and straight forward lawyersi have worked with ever. His advise is very meaningful and helped to resolve my case tremendously. His fees are very reasonable (compared to most lawyers i had researched) and is always a phone call away regards this case even post solving my case . He is a true professional and i highly recommend him. He is a class act.
I couldn't have asked for a better lawyer to represent me. Jay is highly informed and communicates well. From day one, Jay was willing to answer all my questions, spending more than an hour with me during a free consultation. Since it was my first time dealing with a DWI, this made me feel more comfortable and informed. He continued to explain things in an easy-to-understand way throughout each step of the process. He lowered the fees to make it affordable for me (four times less expensive than other representation I considered) and was willing to make a payment plan if need be. He represented me incredibly well in court. The judge even remarked that his statement was the best presentation of a DWI case they had seen in a while. The results were better than I had hoped for: we won the criminal case (DWI charges were reduced to Careless Driving), and won the civil case (my license revocation was rescinded, aka my license wasn’t taken away). I am grateful that now there is officially no DWI on my legal or driving record. Jay cares about his clients. He is human-centered and you can tell he does this work because he cares about his clients’ futures. Although I never wish any friends/family to be in a similar situation, if they were, I would recommend Jay whole-heartedly.
Jay kept me regularly updated on my case and strategy for my trial. He had great questions to single out any jurors that might be bias and would hurt our case. He is well educated and had great questions for the state's witness to dispute evidentiary testimony against me which helped lead to a verdict of not guilty on all charges. He really helped keep me grounded when I was worried about my case and my future.
Recently my wife needed the services of a DWI attorney. We received many solicitation letters from DWI layers. One 0f the ones I contacted was Jay Carey. I interviewed several of them over the phone and was most impressed with Jay. We decided to retain him. What a great decision. He guided us through the process, always returned our phone calls, was generous with his time and did a great job representing my wife. Even after my wife's case was closed he is always available to answer questions that might arise. We would strongly recommend Jay to anyone who is in need of a DWI attorney. He is a first class lawyer and a first class individual. As a bonus he is also one of the most reasonable DWI attorneys in the Twin Cities area.
