About
Twenty years ago, prior to my entering into the field of law, my husband and I lost our house to foreclosure and we filed a bankruptcy. I know how people facing foreclosure and bankruptcy feel because I've been there myself. I can empathize with my clients while I represent them. I began my career in the law as a paralegal. I worked for a medical malpractice attorney for over ten years. Then I became a paralegal for a creditor's rights attorney for four years, working my way up the firm to become the controller and office manager, all the while attending law school and offering part-time paralegal services to a personal injury and general practice attorney.Upon graduating law school and passing the bar, I worked as a general practice attorney for a small law firm in Chardon, Ohio. It was in that practice that I began concentrating on foreclosure defense, creditor/debtor law, and landlord/tenant law. In addition to being admitted as an attorney in the State of Ohio in May, 2011, I also was admitted to the federal court in the Northern District of Ohio, practicing in the Bankruptcy Courts. I am a member of the Ohio Bar Association, Geauga County Bar Association, and Westshore Bar Association.

Jann was so kind and thorough. She's obviously done this a few times for people. No judgement and she really humanized the whole process. She left me feeling prepared for the 341 hearing, knowing the types of questions I'd be asked so I felt confident going into it. She patiently answered all my questions, and to me it seemed I had a lot of questions all the time. But she never made me feel as if my questions weren't welcome, even after discharge when I encountered a debtor I forgot all about from over a decade ago. She is the nicest most personable attorney there is. I highly recommend Jann Washington if you need a good bankruptcy attorney.
Going through a bankruptcy is a such a stressful situation. Finding a lawyer that treated me like a person not like a "case" was so reassuring. She accompanied me to my court hearing and explained every step thoroughly. During the three year period she allowed me to text her with any questions I had. Yes, I said text. My questions were usually answered by the end of the day. She was never to busy for me. She is a smart lawyer with a personal touch. I would highly reccomend her!
I was referred to Jann by my sister, who previously had landlord issues. She said hiring Jann was the best money she'd ever spent so when I ran into an issues with my landlord withholding excessive money from my security depot, upon moving out, I gave Jann a call. She was beyond helpful during that first call and gave me scenarios and options of how to proceed that would be most beneficial to me. I ended up hiring Jann regarding the excessive fees he charged and I ended up getting more money back from the landlord! Best money I spent as well! I had sent her numerous emails and pictures of the property as well as conversations with the landlord and throughout that process, she was a pleasure to work with during what can be considered a stressful time. I highly recommend Jann!!
I moved from an apartment complex on August 30, 2014. I left my apartment spotless in order to receive my full security deposit. It never came. I sent a form letter from the Cleveland Tenants Association by Certified Mail with no response. I contacted Ms. Washington and gave her the 20 pictures that I took of my totally clean and undamaged apartment. I received my Security Deposit check including my retainer fee and an inconvenience fee 5 weeks later. I am very happy that I hired her.
I was referred to Jan Washington for a bankruptcy. Jan confirmed what I could have removed. After receiving a letter from the creditor I filed the bankruptcy on. I asked Jan about it, that's when she told me that the creditor could not be removed. The basis of the bankruptcy was to remove this creditor and she lied to me. Wasted time and money.
