I am surprised at the terrible reviews. I had a collection agency hounding me for $5000. for a credit card I never owned. Jim competently represented me in court and we also received court costs. I have nothing ill to say about the guy. I later recommended him to another guy who was actually guilty of credit card debt, and Jim succeeded in helping him too.

I hired this attorney to help me recover my title from a car dealer that was selling (lemons), charged 500 then more and more, as months past i heard nothing from him. My worse experience is turning my case into a person injury case with a orthodox second contract that sent red flags and last minute to file the case made a clear statement of the unethical conduct . I asked for my file and all the research he presume he did and failed to provide it and giving me a bill for 92 hours worked on my case with nothing to show. He was always talking about himself and not focused on my case until the last minute. I had to let him go.

I was charged for work outside our agreement and he dragged me through a long, ugly, trial in an attempt to force me to pay. He also submitted over a hundred pages of my confidential financial documents to the court, without redacting any of the confidential information that was included. He could have asked the court to protect the documents, or he could have blacked out the sensitive information, but he didn't and now I am a repeat victim of criminal identity theft. Oh, and if you do win your case against him, don't expect him to pay the court ordered judgment.

This attorney did not have a signed agreement yet and still billed while he was trying to figure out whether or not he could even handle my case. I did some research and found that my area of law that I needed help with was not an area that he practiced in. I told him that I would not be signing the contract to hire him. AND HE STILL BILLED ME!!! Don't call him because he will bill you!!

Used him eight years ago to help me on a 2000 medical bill dispute. He didn't even try to help us. Paid him a huge amount of money over what I agreed only to have him show up to court looking like he came off a bender. His opening statement was "Your Honor I don't even have a case" but it gets better. Six years after that he sues me for a bill I paid and demanded interest so high it was laughable. So that meant not only did he file my case in the wrong court all 2000 of it but he tried to get 12,000 for doing it. He lost his suit against me because I represented myself and he was on the other side. As the judge said, he overbilled, was disorganized and said my facts were more creditable. Check out his Bar complaints...lots of them

James Sturdevant took my as his client a year ago for some tax debt I had. After a few weeks of working with him I started receiving phone call from the IRS that they were Garnishing my wages. They filed judgements against me in court and emptied my bank account leaving em over drawn. I called Mr Sturdevant several times asking for him to call me and let me know what was happening. I never got a call returned. I left messages and even went to his office and and no response. He had no problem cashing my check but did nothing to earn the money, In the end he cost me thousands of dollars for his lack of character. I finally wrote him a letter stating that either he return my money or fix the problem. He exploded on me when I went to his office asking for my file to look at. Told me he would call the cops if I didn't leave immediately. I said all I want to do is look at my file and see where we are at. He again threatened me with the cops and ordered me out of his office. Eventually he returned most of my money that i paid him but I was still out thousands of dollars in penalties from the IRS because he did nothing with my case for 4 months straight. DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY!

He sent me a get well letter while I was in the hospital and charged me for it! Then, once I told him his services were no longer needed he continued to pursue my case, charging thousands of dollars. In court he was reprimanded by the Judge repeatedly and then tried to refer me to an attorney in Seattle who in turn told me there was no way he would help me and Sturdevant was crazy to think he would. Fortunately I never signed a retainer, but this guy is a money hungry leech who will have you sit in his office while chats on the phone and stares at you blankly saying, "Um" repeatedly and charge $200 an hour.
