BACKGROUND & EDUCATIONJames was born and raised in Ames, Iowa. After graduating from Ames High School, James obtained his undergraduate education from the University of Iowa. As an undergrad candidate, James was active in various student organizations including representing the University of Iowa at the MACURH Regional Conference and serving a year term as president of the University’s honors residence hall association. In May 2007, James received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Iowa with high distinction, graduating with a major in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. James attended law school at the University of Iowa. While in law school, James was active in various student organizations and participated in trial advocacy and appellate advocacy programs. James graduated law school in 2010 earning a J.D. with high distinction.PRACTICE OVERVIEWJames joined Wiedenfeld & McLaughlin following his graduation from law school in 2010. As an associate for the firm, James handles various matters for his clients including divorce and other family law matters such as disputes regard custody and child support, automobile accident cases, dramshop liability claims and other cases involving injuries allegedly caused by intoxicated individuals, insurance coverage disputes, construction liability, and personal injuries cases such as dog bites, assaults, and slips and falls. James also advises clients on estate planning and probate matters including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, living wills, and will administration.James is admitted to practice law in all Iowa state courts as well as in the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa. He is also a member of the Iowa and Polk County Bar associations.PERSONAL INTERESTSOutside of his professional endeavors, James remains active in the community. James is a board member of the local Kiwanis Club and is an Angel in the Outfield through the Ankeny Miracle League. James has also served as a judge for various debate and mock trial competitions. In addition, he is a donor through the National Marrow Donor Program and advocates that everyone gets tested to see if they might “be the match.”
