About
James R. Hoy grew up in the countryside near Harwood, North Dakota. After graduating from West Fargo High School, Jim attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with both an undergraduate degree in business management and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. While completing these degrees, Jim competed on the UND men’s basketball team and served as a team captain. After his basketball eligibility expired, Jim attended law school at UND. Before earning his law degree in 2011 with distinction, Jim served as the Editor-in-Chief of the North Dakota Law Review and as the president of the Student Trial Lawyers Association. He also competed on the moot court team. In recognition of his oral advocacy and leadership skills, Jim was elected to the Order of Barristers and was recognized as an Outstanding Student Leader. After law school, Jim served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Dale V. Sandstrom of the North Dakota Supreme Court. Jim is licensed to practice law in North Dakota and Minnesota, and he focuses his practice on plaintiff’s personal injury and wrongful death law. Jim enjoys outdoor activities, reading, and spending time with family and friends. He volunteers his time with the Special Olympics of North Dakota and serves on the Board of Directors of the West Fargo Educational Foundation. Jim and his wife live in Bismarck.
