Mr. Dukes was hired in a criminal matter based on a recommendation from a non-criminal practicing attorney. He charged $10,000 up front to take the case. He did little or nothing but look at some of the evidence one time, then drug the case out for an eternity with continuances, over two years. He then cut a deal I was unaware of with the District Attorney, apparently while negotiating other deals simultaneously, and told me to plead guilty. I responded that he made me feel as if though I did not have a choice and he responded "ya right, ya don't". I fired Mr. Dukes and hired another attorney, at half what Mr. Dukes was paid, who reached an amicable resolution of the case. Mr. Dukes reputation is based on some successful cases he tried and won in the 60s. I do not believe he has tried a case in years and it is my personal belief he "horse trades" his client's pleas.
