Mr. Mathis is a founding partner of Mathis, Bates and Klinghard PLLC and a proud father of two. He has extensive experience in the areas of family law, civil litigation, criminal law, and personal injury. Mr. Mathis has reputable trial and litigation experience and represents business entities and individuals in a wide array of legal matters in both Tennessee and Kentucky. Mr. Mathis graduated from Capital University Law School with honors in 2007. While in law school he worked for two years learning the world of insurance defense while clerking for the Cincinnati Insurance Company. His time there gave him an insiders understanding of how insurance companies defend personal injury claims. This knowledge has helped Mr. Mathis settle millions of dollars of claims for his clients as a result of injuries incurred in various motor vehicle accidents. Mr. Mathis was also fortunate to clerk for the Honorable Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton on the Supreme Court of Ohio. Working directly with a state Supreme Court Justice gave him the opportunity to see the legal process from the perspective of the Court and thereby learn more about how judge’s view cases and how best to formulate arguments that will be effective in persuading them.Upon graduation Mr. Mathis moved to Tennessee and began working for the Kennedy Law Firm where his practice was focused on litigation, specifically family law, personal injury, criminal defense, collection actions, and general civil litigation. In his eight years with the firm Mr. Mathis handled thousands of cases including countless contested hearings and trials.Ready to bring a more personal, client centered, and cost effective approach to his practice, he and three other attorneys decided to open Mathis, Bates and Klinghard PLLC. Mr. Mathis is a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association where he served as President of the organization in 2015, as well as, the Kentucky Bar Association.

Jacob is an amazing man. He has always helped my family and myself when I needed him. He is always willing to work with me, whether it is about fund, or the depth of my case. He is quick to respond whenever we need him. I always recommend him to my friends and family for any legal need they have.
My case with my exhusband lasted for almost to 16 months. From the moment I met Jacob, I knew he was someone that I would feel comfortable with sharing personal details that is always involved in these kinds of cases. He was knowledgable on the laws and always did what was in the best interest of my case (and my children). His promptness on issues and concerns was always top notch and was greatly appreciated. During the duration of my case, I was handled exclusively by Jacob and really felt that I was his only client. I would recommend him 1,000 times over.
Bear in mind I haven't had the need to form an attorney-client relationship, yet. Nonetheless, I have consulted with Jacob on a few occasions and he's pointed me to the right direction. Very caring, positive, and excellent communication. Thank you, Jacob!
I was referred to Mr Mathis while searching for an attorney to handle my divorce. I am very happy with the services he provided. Jacob eaised the entire process, and although not the least expensive option, he definitely went above and beyond. I highly recommend him.
Any parent who has buried a daughter knows while the pain and heartache never goes away, that a piece of their daughter remains in the grandchildren, that if your fortunate, remain. Only weeks after the sudden death of my 36 year old unmarried daughter, and taking emergency custody for her two children, my 8 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson, I was served with papers for custody by my grandson's dead beat dad who had vanished 8 months after he was born. A man who abused my daughter on many levels was now trying to take one of the two gifts she had left behind. The extent of my anger was only surpassed by the fear and possibility that I and my wife could loose something more valuable than money can define. Soon after meeting Attorney Mathis, his confidence and no nonsense approach began to ease my fear and helped me gain confidence that he was the right man for the job. While I knew Attorney Mathis was active and proven as a Tennessee attorney, it wasn't until a few weeks later that I found out both his reputation as a tough and experienced attorney, and track record of winning in the courtroom, went beyond state lines. Although the case had been filed in Tenessee because that is where my grandson had been living when my daughter died, with a license to practice law in Kentucky and a keen sense of the state's Custody Law, Attorney Mathis understood and began positioning this case as one for the Kentucky courts because my wife and I, and now my grandson, are residents of Kentucky. What I had thought were arbitrary delays to a court date where I am feared I may loose my grandson, were actually very purposefuel time extensions by Attorney Mathis to meet a six month residency requirement for my grandson so that the case no longer had merit in Tennessee and instead now was under the jurisdiction of Kentucky. As one of only 3 states in the country where grandparents are given equal footing to parents in the courtroom. Kentucky by its deliberate and progressive laws gives grandparents rights to fair and equal consideration for custody of grandchildren. As I came home from work and opened the days mail a couple weeks ago, with the ever present thoughts of loosing custody of my grandson hanging over me and darkening each day, I couldn't believe my eyes began to cry as I read a letter from Attorney Mathis. The letter detailed how a few days earlier when he went to court regarding our case, how he saw to the judge ruling the case to be dismissed based on the entire record and due to lack of jurisdiction. It was over...my grandson was safe and my wife and I victorious in holding on to the part of our daughter that lives on in each of our grandchildren. Down to earth Professionalism, vast and practiced knowledge of Iaw, multi-talented courtroom warrior with multi-state reach, a reputation and respect among attorneys and Judges earned from cases argued and cases heard, bold auditor and compassionate counselor, an attorney hired not to be your friend and a friend you will find in the attorney...it's for all this that I have come to know and trust about Attorney Mathis that YOU, as my wife and I did, can entrust Attorney Mathis with things most important and matters most valued--when loosing isn't an option.
Mr. Mathis put me right at ease from the moment we first sat down to talk. I loved his positive attitude and his promptness on moving forward with my wishes. He always kept me up to date with emails and phone calls, as well as sending me all documents in my case for my own records. He was able to successfully get my divorce dismissed in Kentucky so I could move it back to my home state. Would highly recommend hiring him for any legal matter!
Jacob is an outstanding Attorney, keeps me up to date on everything going on with the case. He is kind, compassionate to doing the right thing in the best interest of his clients, aside from that, knows how to quickly take control of a situation in a court room when things get out of line. Very calm, collective and only uses whats needed at the time, and saves the rest for when it will be useful, great strategizer in putting cases together and laying it out before the courts.
I contacted Jacob Mathis about a divorce that involved pending criminal charges against my spouse. My uncertainty about the situation was comforted after speaking with him. He was always clear and straight forward with me, even if it was not what I wanted to hear. Throughout my case, he quickly answered and took action with my concerns. Safety and security were top priority in my case. Mr.Mathis was very understanding and put great care into that. He is a man of great integrity, and impeccable character. With that being said I'm thankful that Jacob Mathis helped me to get through my divorce quickly and securely. He has my recommendation!
Jacob is a wonderful lawyer. He is very attentive to your needs and timely in his responses concerning the case matter. His work ethic is outstanding, professionalism on point, and a man of integrity. I am thankful for everything he has done for me.
Jacob Mathis has been my attorney for the past several months and for various topics. He has a kind, but no nonsense way about him that I have come to appreciate as I have been navigating my way through my legal needs. He is sharp, reliable and timely in his responses, I'm relieved I found him when I did and recommend him whole heartedly.
