About

Alex is a first generation American on his mother’s side and a second generation immigration attorney on his father’s side. He started working with his father, J. Bruce Weinman, when he was in high school and joined his office full time while in law school.Alex received his J.D. from New York Law School in 2017, graduating valedictorian of his class and summa cum laude. He sat on the editorial board of the New York Law School Law Review as an articles editor and is the recipient of the Trustee’s Prize, Elsberg Prize, Joseph Solomon Award, Henry J. Wolff Award, and Milton S. Gould Award. He also served as an assistant editor for the Civic Research Institute’s Journal of Taxation and Regulation of Financial Institutions. At New York Law School, Alex actively volunteered with the Save Passage Project, appearing in immigration court on behalf of unaccompanied minors in deportation proceedings, preparing instructional materials for immigration attorneys, and training attorneys how to prepare immigration petitions.After law school, Alex joined Linklaters LLP and then Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, where he practiced in the Investment Management Group and the Alternative Assets Transactions and Liquidity Solutions Group. Most notably in his corporate practice, he advised on multi-billion-dollar private equity fundraises, bespoke secondary transactions, including GP-led tender offers and rollover and continuation vehicles, and over two dozen co-investment equity syndications for Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. He actively participated in the Regulatory Group, updating the practice group on changes to the securities law regime; and he regularly trained other associates on securities law, fund formation, and fund economics. With a focus on both business immigration law options for investors and entrepreneurs, and family-based immigration petitions, Alex is excited to come back to the family business and brings his corporate and financial law background to work for his clients.Alex is the author of The Nonprofit Commercial Enterprise: A Vehicle for Foreign Investment (New York Law School Law Review, Vol. 62), an article arguing for a broader interpretation by the USCIS of the profit generating standard under the EB-5 regulations and Cross-Border Equity Swaps: Treasury’s Revised Regulations Under Section 871(m) and the New Substantial Equivalence Test (Journal of Taxation and Regulation of Financial Institutions, Summer 2017).Before law school, Alex tap danced professionally, performing at venues such as Lincoln Center and the Apollo Theatre, appearing on Sesame Street and The Today Show, and teaching at Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, the American Tap Dance Foundation, Rutgers University, Wagner College, and Oklahoma City University.Alex is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the New York State Bar Association, where he a member of the Tax Section (serving on the "Inbound" U.S. Activities of Foreign Taxpayers Committee) and International Section (serving on the Immigration and Nationality Committee).
