Mr. Grisbaum has handled various legal matters for me and others I have recommended for years. His professional acumen and integrity are beyond reproach. His ability to litigate complex legal issues is impressive. Gevin is an expert at mitigating legal issues to bring mutual and amicable resolution to all parties involved thus avoiding trial-based litigation. However, if trial is necessary, Gevin defends his clients vigorously and expertly. I give Mr. Grisbaum my highest recommendation.

Mr. Grisbaum came highly recommended from a friend. He was knowledgeable, professional and kind from beginning to end. I would definitely recommend him and would not hesitate to use him again in the future.

We hired Gevin in July of 2015 for my child support case which he handled with excellence! He then represented me for a custody case and was very knowledgeable and averted a disastrous living arrangement for my special needs child. Mr. Grisbaum has been a blessing and I have recommended him to several people, all of whom have been very pleased with their experiences as well.

He told me I didn’t have to go to a court date (he would), so I didn’t, aaaaand it was a missed court appearance so a warrant went out for my arrest. Thanks.

This attorney “represented” me in a divorce, custody, & child support case. Per the state of Louisiana, child support is based off of both parents’ incomes, as well as any other child support either parent may be paying. Not only did he NOT present any facts to help me see my children, as I had emailed him requesting him to do so, he told me that the amount determined to be owed in child support, which another lawyer and judge determined was an error, was “the best I would get, so I should take it,” he “negotiated” me being homeless by having to pay the incorrectly calculated amount for child support, as well as an additional 40% of parochial schools, extra curricular activities, medical bills, and more, while my former spouse was awarded sole custody for no reason. Ive yet to receive a copy of any of these court papers from this attorney. He shouldn’t be allowed to practice. I will be bringing this before the board, along with all the other clients he was too lazy to represent on their behalf.

Mr. Grisbaum got my information from another attorney who didn’t handle family law cases, and HE CALLED ME to offer his services in a very acrimonious, difficult divorce and child custody case even though he knew I could not pay him very much. I was abruptly served with divorce papers by my ex husband, and since I had been a stay at home mother for the past three years and had no access to my husband’s money, I had about $100 to my name. I sold my engagement ring and gave what I could get for it to Mr. Grisbaum two days before our first court date. Initially, he seemed very interested and enthusiastic about handling my case, telling me he “likes to help people.” My husband’s attorney asked for access to my medical records and therapy notes, which I willingly granted, because I knew they contained documentation of the emotional and physical deterioration I experienced due to the highly stressful environment I lived in during the last year of my marriage, and Mr. Grisbaum and I discussed this as well. Mr. Grisbaum reported that he got a copy of my medical records from the other attorney, and I informed him, because my husband had told me and he (Mr. Grisbaum) apparently didn’t realize it, that was only one of the five that I authorized access to. Mr. Grisbaum’s reply to me was, “it is what it is,” and no further attempts were made to retrieve the records, although they contained significant information about the medical and emotional problems I’d experienced in the past year, including a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and an LCSW who was clinical director at a mental health clinic who told me they felt I was being psychologically and emotionally abused by my husband. As time went on, I heard very little from Mr. Grisbaum, usually not until it was a day or two before the next court date, and he would meet with me for maybe half an hour before we were due to appear in a coffee shop across the street from the courthouse. I rarely ever attempted to contact him, because I knew I did not have the funds to pay for additional meetings or consultation. At some point, it had become an issue that I had not yet found full time employment, although I had been out of work for at least 4 years as a stay at home mother at this point, and I offered to submit proof of all of the jobs I’d applied for. After coming out of a meeting with the family court judge and my husband’s attorney, Mr. Grisbaum told me to “go work at a coffee shop.” I told him that I doubted a coffee shop would hire a woman in her 40’s with a master’s degree and 15 years of professional work experience, including two supervisory positions, in a clinical field. Mr. Grisbaum then told me, “the money train is about to be over,” referring to the spousal support I was receiving from my husband, even though it was ordered for 8 more months. I told him that I was a grown woman, I had worked and supported myself before, and I would do it again. Mr. Grisbaum made no further attempts to contact me after that exchange, and friends and family urged me to fire him. I would have loved to, but I didn’t have any more money to hire another attorney. Eventually, I received a subpoena to appear for my divorce to become final. As the date drew closer, I attempted to contact Mr. Grisbaum by phone, text message, and email. He finally returned my call several days later, one day before I was supposed to appear. That day, I was about five minutes late arriving, and I never even saw Mr. Grisbaum. He returned my call and told me I could go. To this day, I have never received any form of records, paperwork, etc regarding the finalization of my divorce, there was never any discussion of division of assets, child support, or financial settlement, and I suffer the repercussions of it on a daily basis. I DEEPLY REGRET using Mr. Grisbaum as my divorce attorney, and cannot understand why he would contact me and offer to represent me for an agreed upon amount if that is not what he intended to do.
