His immigration practice is both family and employment based. A special service offered by attorney Bruno is consular processing and diplomatic intervention for overseas problem solving. He received a BA from Hartwick College, JD from George Washington University, and Reginald Heber Smith Fellowship from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He founded and was the first Executive Director of NH Legal Assistance and NH Public Defender. He served as a Special Assistant US Attorney in the Carter Administration and prosecuted illegal drug and firearm cases in Miami, FL. 1994-1997 he served as US Ambassador to Belize, supervising a staff of 120 including active consular and commercial offices. 1998-00, he served as a senior member of the US team to implement the Carter-Torrijos Treaty transferring the Panama Canal facilities and military bases. He is a member of the Bars of NH, NY, NJ, and DC. He argued and won Philpot v. Essex County Welfare Board, 93 S.Ct. 590 (1973), before the US Supreme Court barring creditors from attaching Social Security benefits. Bulletin 1153 (Sept 15, 2008) Attorney Bruno is also Managing Director of USA Group International, a NH and Washington based international consulting firm. He has consulted on justice systems in the US and abroad, served as the International Affairs Advisor to the Commandant of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, Fort Benning, GA, is an advisor to the Director, Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, in Washington, DC, a member of the board of the International Jurists Organization (New Delhi, India), and helps manage democracy-strengthening projects under UNH’s Civil Society Program in Eastern Europe. Throughout the year he hosts international delegations in NH. He has lectured on democracy, foreign policy, trade, and civil-military initiatives in over 50 countries. In Fall 2009, he received an honorary degree from New England College, Henniker, NH, his second such degree, for his work in the international field.
