Gemma Ypparila focuses her practice on real estate and environmental law, assisting clients on matters including property finance, leasing, conveyancing, zoning and permitting.Gemma represents a wide variety of commercial clients including those in the energy, utilities and real estate development industries. She routinely coordinates with municipal and state authorities on complex permitting and zoning issues. Gemma also has extensive experience working with residential and nonprofit clients on real property transactions with substantial tax implications.Gemma frequently counsels commercial and municipal clients on environmental regulatory compliance and enforcement matters. She represents clients in matters involving water pollution, air pollution and the development of solar and clean energy facilities. When necessary, Gemma assists with the drafting of documents for submission with various environmental appeals boards dealing with issues such as NPDES water permitting to secure favorable outcomes for clients.During law school, Gemma worked as a Summer Associate for Bowditch & Dewey, LLP and as a Legal Intern for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. She also interned at the Massachusetts State House for the House Committee of Ways and Means and served as Associate Executive Editor for the Suffolk University Moot Court Honor Board’s Journal of Trial and Appellate Advocacy. Gemma is a regular contributor to Bowditch & Dewey’s Commercial Real Estate Insight & News blog.
