About

My practice focuses on DUI/OUI defense, and helping Alaskans who have been charged with drunk driving  and related charges.  I have helped Alaskans arrested for DUI since 1983, a period of more than 30 years. I love my work, and the opportunity to help people in time of need.   Born in Alaska, I attended college in the Midwest, and Law School in New York.  I returned to Alaska immediately after law degree in 1982, and have been practicing law, including DUI defense, since 1983. I have been the only Alaska Delegate to the National College for DUI Defense since aproximately 1997.  I have taught lawyers in DUI defense on both a State and National level, including as a guest lecturer to DUI lawyers from all over the country at the annual "Mastering Scientific Evidence" lawyer training seminar in New Orleans, on the topic of Breath Alcohol Testing. I have focused my time and efforts over the years in mastering DUI law, the science of breath and blood alcohol testing, and the field sobriety tests conducted by police.  I have completed the certified training required to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, as well as certified traiining as an Instructor of  those tests, under training approved by the National Highway Traffic Safey Administration and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.  I have completed several courses in on the operation of the Datamaster breath testing device employed in Alaska, including factory training in Ohio where the Datamaster is manufactured. I constantly strive to learn more in my field, and to stay abreast of the latest technology and defenses in the field of DUI defense.  To that end I have attended DUI defense training seminars with other DUI defense lawyers throughout the country, in Texas, Louisana, Nevada, Arizona, California, Washington, Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, Hawaii, and Alaska.  Feel free to call should you have any questions about a DUI case.  That is what I do.

As with any life changing situation an individual faces in there time on this earth I was facing one of them in the form of a possible Dwi and Refusal charge this past June in the lovely (village) of Kodiak. As I was standing on the street in front of Kodiak's finest I contacted a friend whom Fred had represented previously, he afforded me Fred's cell#. Mind you it was approx 11:00pm yet Fred called me back nearly minutes after I left him a message. Immediately following the discussion with him I did what he suggested. I'll cut to the chase. As with anyone facing these life changing circumstances I was assuming the worst. Fred did not sugar coat any facet of the situation and layed out the potential legal representation and the dollar figures for those services. The end result was a mistermeaner charge of recklessness endangerment, no points,no license ramifications, no SR-22, or a lot of the consequences of making a bad decisions. Unbelievable results considering the evidence against me. I would recommend Fred's firm to anyone facing one of these life-changing circumstances as I have to all my close friends. Thank you Fred for a job well done.

He put me at ease and made sure I had clear understanding throughout the whole process. The prices were fare and the service is unparalleled. I would recommend Fred Slone to anybody who has received a DUI.

Fred Slone is the choice for a DUI attorney in Anchorage or the Mat Su Valley. This was the advice given to me by a group of lawyer friends of mine. As a commercial airline pilot I was very concerned. They were correct. I could not be more pleased of the service that I received. Mr Slone and his staff worked tirelessly and continuously impressed me with the knowledge that he has gained in his thirty plus years of experience. Completely due to Mr Slone my DUI case was ultimately dismissed.

Fred Slone was an absolute pleasure to work with. I had no idea what I was facing and anxious about the possible outcome from the court system. To make matters more interesting I was an out of state client. From the very beginning Fred and his staff kept me informed of the process and patiently worked with me to explain the status of my case. Ultimately, It was under his counsel that my case was dismissed. I would recommend Fred Slone to anyone that was seeking representation in a DUI , DWI, or OUI case. The knowledge and service provided was excellent.

I was referred to Attorney Fred Slone by a coworker. He and 2 others had successfully been defended from dui charges. I was arrested for dui on a Saturday night. Fred returned my Sunday call within a very short time. He and his staff immediately began paperwork for a DMV hearing. This postponed my CDL forfeiture, which would have immediately cost me my job. I had very difficult circumstances stacked against me. I had been cooperative with the arresting trooper. Despite this, Fred was able to determine my "due process" had been violated. Fred successfully defended me in the DMV hearing, resulting in NO loss of CDL! I was able to witness both Fred (and Landon) at work in the courtroom. They were very impressive in action, and it was obvious I made the correct choice by seeking their representation. Ultimately, Fred was able to get my breath test dismissed, and eventually the state dropped my entire case! No charges! I have never needed representation before this. Fred, Landon, Dawn, and Cynthia did an excellent job helping me through this crisis. They answered all my questions promptly, and were courteous and understanding. All correspondence (emails, recordings, etc.) Arrived timely, and instructions were clear. Any additional paperwork requests I had to stay in compliance with my employer, were handled without hesitation. Fred's fee contract kept me from guessing when I was getting a bill, and how much it was going to be. I know not everyone is perfect. Good people make bad decisions. If you or someone you know is in the same boat I was, you CAN NOT afford to wait. You CAN NOT afford to go it without Attorney Fred Slone! I am 100% confident Fred will give you your best opportunity for success, just like he did for me.

I was referred by a friend to Fred Slone after a DUI charge. After I called his office, Mr. Slone met with me immediately and agreed to take my case. He explained in plain language my situation and the options that were available. He mapped out a course of action and worked very hard on my behalf. What especially impressed me was the willingness of Mr. Slone to take my many calls throughout the process. It was a very stressful situation and he was always available to answer questions and offer advice. The charges were eventually reduced due to the excellent work of Mr. Slone. I would highly recommend Mr. Slone to anyone seeking legal representation.

I was extremely pleased with Fred Sloan and the job that he performed with my case. From the beginning, Fred was helpful with explaining my options and letting me know how the process would work. He never once tried to push me one direction or the other on whether to bring my case to trial or not and left the decision in my hands. His firm handled the administrative work that was necessary for the court, which made it much easier on me. Once I decided to bring the case to trial, Fred made sure to get all of the evidence for the case and was properly prepared for the trial once it began. His recommendations on certain aspects of the case, such as which evidence to include and his knowledge of the law to disqualify other evidence proved to be key in the case. At the trial, Fred was extremely knowledgable and made sure to include my input in important decisions such as jury selection, after asking very informative questions during the selection process. Once evidence was presented Fred did an outstanding job on the cross examination of the prosecutors witnesses, which was another key aspect of the trial. My overall experience with Fred Sloan and his firm was great and I would highly recommend them, especially for cases that are related to a DUI offense.

Mr Slone took the time to get all the information from my case and review all documents and video. His dedication to his work and the facts helped my case against the charge against me. His meticulous cross examination at the hearing proved how well he took the time reviewing my case from counting steps on the sobriety test to analyzing the video over and over, while looking for discrepancies in the officers written report and testimony. His hard work and experience got my case dismissed and my life back. Mr Slone is an amazing lawyer, he answered all my questions in a timely manner no matter big or small. I would recommend him to anyone needing help like I did.

When I first met with Fred I felt he might be a good lawyer from his presentation and his web site. Unfortunately, Fred Stone did not turn out to be that good. He got a healthy retainer and continual "additional" funds. The total for his representation was $16,000.00 give or take a few dollars. We had a DMV telephonic hearing with Juneau and Fred was sitting there literally picking at his fingernails and not paying attention to the hearing (the guy chews his fingernails to the numb). Seemed like he was just going thru the motions to get paid. I finally had enough and interrupted the Hearing officer to state a few facts about the situation and suddenly everything shifted entirely to my favor. I did this, I personally and specifically raised a few points as the hearing was almost over, not Fred Stone. We (I) actually won the DMV hearing, based solely on the points I raised, and my license was reinstated. Fred Stone literally seemed a bit surprised that we had won the DMV hearing. As soon as the telephone hearing was over, amid his apparent surprise we had won, he asked for ANOTHER $5,000.00 advance. Next, we went to an evidentiary hearing for the actual Court Hearing and again there was Fred picking at his fingernails. I took the stand and the ADA just went after me in an extreme and aggressive way. Fred didn't object or really seem all that attentive to what was even going on. With a good and focused lawyer, I am confident this case would have been a complete win. Let me wrap this up by saying that ultimately (after a few more hearings and little if any effort by Fred) I said screw this I want a change of plea and I just took the punishment even though I still believe the whole DUI should have been tossed. Being milked for vast amounts of money by a guy who only seemed to pay attention to his fingernails just didn't suit my interests or my bank account. I would really never hire him again or refer him to anyone I liked. If you hire this guy make sure he is over the fingernail chewing issue or you could land in a really bad spot. Grandpa always said: "Focus, Focus, Focus."

He didn't have very good personal skills. If it wasn't for his assistant lawyer Erin I would've driven myself insane. Erin was wonderful.
