About

 I was born in Sacramento in December 1954 and then moved to other parts of Northern California and to Idaho with my family from when I was 4 to 9 years old. I returned to Sacramento when I was 9 years old and have lived here since then except for the time I attended law school in Berkeley in the late 1970’s. I have lived in East Sacramento since I was 10 years old and have many, many very good friends in town. I attended David Lubin Elementary School, Sutter Junior High School and Sacramento High School, graduating in 1973.  I started at Sacramento State in 1973 and graduated with honors in 1977.  I then attended Boalt Hall School of Law at UC Berkeley through 1980, received my JD degree in 1980, and started work at Wilke, Fleury, Hoffelt and Gray in August of 1980, receiving notice that I passed the California bar exam later that year.  While working at Wilke Fleury I attended the LLM in Tax Law program at McGeorge School of Law, receiving my LLM in Tax Law in 1983.  I have worked at Wilke Fleury from 1980 to the present, having become a partner in the firm in 1986.  It has been a wonderful career with wonderful people, including my partners, our staff and all of the clients with whom I have worked for many years.  I am fortunate to have become close with entire families and even multiple generations in working for my clients. I married Theresa Murphy, now Theresa Krtil, in 1979, the year before I graduated from law school, and we lived most of our first year of marriage in Berkeley.  Theresa taught second grade in El Cerrito that year.  We returned to Sacramento when I had graduated from law school and had completed sitting for the bar exam in August 1980.  Theresa had also lived in East Sacramento essentially her entire life, and we have many long-time friends in common.  Theresa and I were both glad to be back to Sacramento.  Theresa occasionally works as a substitute teacher at the elementary school a few blocks from our home, the same school that she attended as a child. We had a daughter, Sarah, in 1985, and she has two children.  We had our son, Joe, in 1989.  Both have graduated from college and are pursuing their careers.  My sister and her husband and son live here in Sacramento, as do Theresa’s 4 brothers, her sister, their spouses and some of her nieces.  My father died when I was young and my mother passed away in 1990.  My wife’s father passed away more recently, but her mother still lives in the family home a few blocks from our home.  We are able to have many holidays, get togethers and functions with our extended families since there are so many of us still in town. I am a member of the Sacramento Estate Planning Council and the Sutter Club, as well as a number of professional associations.  Theresa is also in various organizations.  Work and family and friends keep us very busy.  We are privileged to have been part of a true community and included in such close families over all these years.
