About
Eric Goodman is the managing partner of the Goodman Mooney, a firm specializing in intellectual property law and related business matters. A business entrepreneur as well as an intellectual property attorney, Eric has extensive experience in the fields of information technologies and brand protection. Eric is a California native and grew up Orange County. He attended Pepperdine University where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in business management. While an undergraduate student, he worked at the corporate headquarters of Denny’s Restaurants where he was responsible for implementing the company’s first local area network. Once graduated, he ran a small consulting firm which specialized in information technologies. Later, he formed an e-commerce company distributing specialty music and videos within the action sports market. At the same time, Eric launched a snowboard distribution company serving wholesalers around the world. He graduated with honors from Whittier Law School where he earned a certificate in intellectual property law, was a member of the Law Review and the Moot Court Honors Board and president of the Whittier Intellectual Property Organization and the Entertainment and Sports Law Society. Eric is published in the Journal of Art and Entertainment Law, as author of A National Identity Crisis: The Need For A Federal Right Of Publicity Statute. Capitalizing on his technical background and experience in brand development, he was recruited by pioneer sports agent Leigh Steinberg to help launch an online forum for fans to interact with professional athletes as part of a joint venture with AOL. Eric also worked with Jeff Moorad (owner of the San Diego Padres) in securing internet domain names and protecting the right of publicity of professional athletes. His practice currently focuses on trademarks, copyrights, trade dress, trade secrets, unfair competition, false advertising and contract disputes for brand owners, manufacturers, retailers and distributors in the apparel, fashion, sports, entertainment, food services, finance and gift item industries. Eric is admitted to practice law in the State of California, the Federal Court for all districts of California, as well as the Federal Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Eric teaches advanced courses in intellectual property as an adjunct professor at Whittier Law School where he has also acted as the interim director of the Center for Intellectual Property. Mr. Goodman's thorough knowledge of intellectual rights law is vitally important to me as a client whose living depends upon creative work. His attention to detail is exquisite, and his approach to litigation impeccable. Mr. Goodman's careful to choose not only the right fight, but the right terrain, and works confidently and passionately on behalf of his clients.
Eric is a great lawyer who really cares about his clients. He looks you in the eye and doesn't blast you with legal mumbo jumbo. I've sent many of my friends to him and would trust with anything. If you own a small or medium sized business and want to protect your IP, he's your guy.
Eric handled a trademark infringement matter for me and got a great result. He really knows his stuff! I feel really luck that I had him on my side. Thanks Eric.
Mr. Goodman and his firm have provided their legal expertise on several occasions for my business needs. Mr. Goodman is always knowledgeable, straightforward in his approach and always handles the situation expeditiously. I'm always confident, with my business transactions, when Eric is involved. As I have in the past, I would absolutely recommend Eric and his firm.
One of hallmarks of a good business person is their ability to be a good listener. I always feel heard and understood when I bring my business to Goodman, and I'm sure I'm not alone in how I feel about their abilities to wrap their heads around the issue. Normally I'd dread doing a project that requires the use of "legal", but working with Eric is painless and I no longer cringe when I hear that word. I can't recommend him enough.
Eric is a lawyer that is able to efficiently and expertly digest/filter all aspects of my always changing legal needs. He does not waste my minutes, focuses on whatever I have at hand and is a pleasure to work with. While extremely impressed with his knowledge of the law, Eric has also provided me with excellent referrals.
