About
Elizabeth Hope Cothran represents employers in litigation before state and federal courts and administrative agencies in a wide range of employment law issues in our Labor and Employment section. Hope also assists government contractors with all aspects of affirmative action compliance, including developing and maintaining affirmative action plans and defending them in audits conducted by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). Hope regularly presents at our annual Labor & Employment seminar, advises employers and trains employees on a wide variety of workplace issues such as employee handbooks and agreements, discipline and discharge issues, noncompetition issues, social media in the workplace, FLSA, ADA and FMLA compliance and workplace harassment and discrimination.She’s also written and lectured on all aspects of employment law throughout the region and has been cited by Super Lawyers magazine as one of its “Rising Stars.” Hope volunteers her time by serving as president of the board of directors of Bethany Hall, which provides long-term residential substance abuse treatment for women. Always looking to give back to her profession, Hope also co-chairs the Choose Law/Pre-Law Counseling Committee of the Virginia Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. Hope also serves as the co-chair of the firm’s Recruitment committee.Hope is a graduate of Emory University and earned her law degree from the University of Richmond.
